how can you say "thats the way its been and thats the way it will always be"? we have elogs now, monitoring every movement and soon, cams in the truck, gps monitoring everything we do

that is not "the way it has always been"

As many years as I've been driving, never with a accident/incident I think I might not need a 34 hour restart study

I started driving in 04. In my world, we have always had DOT and HOS rules and we always will. I know there are still ancient cowboys out there left over roaring 70's drivers could run 48 hours straight if they wanted to and easily get away with it. But like it or not, those days are long gone and will never come again.

even with elogs, you will still get drivers driving tired,

o, i got a great idea, lets have sleep monitors installed in trucks to make sure that all drivers get 8 solid hours of sleep, and the truck wont start until that 8hrs of sleep is registered

and if you only sleep 7.5, the clock restarts

I'm sure it's coming?. I only sleep 4-5 hrs a day no matter how tired I am when i go to bed. Been that way my whole life. FMCSA should of left the HOS rules In place pre 2004 and at least we had flexibility and could stop the clock.

And you always will. Making murder illegal doesn't result in a murder rate of zero and never will. Does that mean we should make murder legal too?

no, but me driving when i am rested and sleeping when i am tired is not really comparable to murder

you keep on welcoming uncle sam dictating your salary, he will drive you into the poorhouse

It is when you don't have HOS regs and a guy who is on his 30th hour plows into my wife's car and kills her.

I don't care for all the meddling and inflexibility of the rules but one thing is for certain. The more they keep tightening the screws the more difficult it becomes to find trucks. So viewed in that sense things are looking up.

With any luck, it will decrease the available capacity to the point things aren't being moved on time, through decreased productivity and drivers who simply won't do it anymore ... It is the consumer who will ultimately pay for all of this nonsense ...
