I want to buy a truck 2000 miles away and bobtail it home. How do I do that? I dont have an authority set up yet, only have a registered corporation.

Hunters permit (usually good for 30 days) from your home state or a temporary tag from the state where you bought the truck. You'll also need trip permits from each state you'll pass through since you aren't apportioned or IFTA. Don't forget the insurance...

Put a temporary tag on it from the state you bought it,make sure you have insurance, put it in gear and head home. Stay off the scales best you can. That is what I would do.

OOPS. I just saw you said no insurance. I would not move the truck without insurance. Aren't you putting the cart before the horse ?

Bypass all scales, run at night, get a radio and use it.

yes, I kinda do. I started to look early and just dont want to pass on this truck. I am planning to get it and it will sit for about two months, while I am setting up the authority. Its gonna be a cash purchase, so I am not worried if truck will sit for little bit.

lol do I really have to worry about scales? If I have a temp tag and insurance, shouldn't I be all legal?

You're pretty much just getting auto liability and maybe bobtail. This is insurance you'll have to buy anyway, either on your own or through whatever carrier you might lease on to. If you are already in talks with a carrier, they may give you a binder...basically saying you are insured under their policy pending an official policy being written up for you. If you are getting your own authority, you'll have to keep auto liability anyway, so unless you're driving it home to put it up on blocks, you'll keep it in place.

Insuracare offer 10 day insurance for $100 I believe. Don't quote me on that. I'm in the same boat as you. Wanna buy a cash truck and bring it home. A dealer can get you a 30 day temp tag if it's a dealer otherwise get a temp from the state you getting it from

You'll still need a log book, med card, CDL, etc. because it is a CMV...and that means pulling into the scales if they are open. You just don't have operating authority so you cannot haul freight.
