I found an old spreadsheet laying around that I used to track how I was doing with the truck, and verifying that the owner was paying me correctly. The owner has since sold his trucks, and enough time has passed that I feel comfortable posting this info here. I've edited out some info, but you can get a general idea of how an O/O could make out loading a dry van with exclusively spot market loads. This is also first quarter, which is typically the slowest freight period.

I booked the majority of these loads myself; some of these were loads that the truck owner found when he wasn't busy doing other things.

One thing that isn't readily apparent is that some of these were 'loadout' loads, so the owner saved on trailer maintenance costs by loading someone else's trailer with his freight.

problem with those numbers. is 2 years later. the rates are much lower.

i met a lady today, that i had no idea she was the broker for some of our loads. and she says rates have dropped 50% this year. she also said don't even think about going to colorado.

I can attest to that brother,,,CO sucks for rates! In fact, out west sucks for rates all together but, my dumb butt went out there twice in the last 3 months,,,idiot! Never again will I go west, regardless how much they pay me, well maybe I shouldn't say that..lol I have heard from many brokers that their rates are low due to the FSC, in relation to fuel prices. I don't care, the prices will go back up and I still need to make a profit.

I am happy for both "Windsmith" and "blairandgretchen", for getting good rates out of CO, seriously. I don't know if you all get your loads off load boards or not but that is where I get my loads. Off "GetLoaded.com" and DAT. Believe me, I am working on getting direct customers but, it is slow going along with trying to survive..

I booked those loads from either Trucker'sEdge or ITS. I never could find anything worth hauling on GetLoaded. The owner of the truck liked to use 123Loadboard, but I never could find any decent rates on that board either.

That Colorado turn was the lowest paying trip for that quarter, I think. But I just had to do it, at least once.

minneapolis last week. had only one load that paid better then $1.10. and that only load, would have taken me half way home. to lumber terriroty. where i could have bounced 15 miles for a load of lumber to finish my journey home. between the 2, that would have been a decent trip home.

I have heard many times that ITS is what a lot of people use. I am going to give DAT another month and see how it pans out, if it doesn't provide me with what I want, I will switch to ITS.

I am told that the sites use the same database, so both boards have the same loads. I've never used DAT, so I can't confirm that.
