I am going to pick up some folding tables I bid on from state surplus property. Am I required to use (or not use) a BOL; since it's personal property on a CMV? I keep blank BOL forms in the truck, but I just don't know the requirements. Thanks in advance.

Your receipt from the auction will be all you need to prove its personal property. It's not a big deal really,.
silver dollar Thanks this. -
i was told you can always carry personal property in your trailer, without a BOL
however, i "heard" that a flatbedder had a toy tonka truck strapped to an empty flatbed and DOT told him to remove it or he would get cited for not having a BOLsilver dollar Thanks this. -
Skydivedavec, Ruthless, rollin coal and 4 others Thank this.

Don't know about the DOT, but I saw the Tonka and the trailer. That was Mondo Cool!! Got me smiling for the rest of the day on a not so good morning. Thanks, whoever you are out there.

Ahh the Tonka truck and DOT cop story....A gem.
I used to haul 4 offroad vehicles to an offroad park in Ar, from Mo, on my RGN. I stopped at a scale and asked an actual DOT officer the rules.
So long as you aren't getting paid, in a competition where you could win a prize, and so on, no log book or bills required. It's personal use, simple as that.
Mind, I did hear on the CB that a guy's 2 cousin three times removed got a ticket for......

Sometimes hauling your personal property can be hard to prove.I used to haul my farm equipment from Florida to North Carolina. Diesel Bear in N.C. stopped me, started asking how could I prove machinery was mine. I said I couldn't, but that it was. We went around for a while, he finally let me go, told me to always carry proof I owned the cargo if hauling my personal equipment. Still can't, some of that stuff was made in a machine shop 30 years ago, no paperwork.
Florida has also told me to have paperwork if I was hauling personal items under the agricultural exemption.
Sometimes you just can't please those bears. -
I've seen that Tonka guy a bunch of times.
