I'm new to this side of things, I have a guy wanting to run under my MC # with his own truck/trailer. Is there a place I can go for a lease agreement for this situation? Can anyone tell me what else I need as far as paperwork between us. I understand the liability of him running on my number in terms of reputation. Thanks for any help you can offer with the legalities of this!

OOIDA has a lease agreement form you can use or use as a guideline for a contract. I would just use what they have and add to it what I figured was necessary.

I will check that out, is there anything else I need beyond the contract? Someone mentioned to me that there was a pile of paperwork to go along with this new venture but I've looked all over and can't seem to find a list of what I need.

Keep in mind by letting him run under your authority, your company becomes legally liable for everything he does, not just the damage that can be done to your reputation with brokers, shippers, and such but the FMCSA/DOT. You become responsible for his actions, inspection defects, safety of his truck, even if he has an accident and kills someone, you are the carrier they come after. You need to qualify him as if he was a company driver, background check, driver file, drug test, the whole 9 yards. Unless he is bringing great customers to you that you invoice and keep a good percentage of the revenue it isn't worth it. For a small fraction of what he is going to pay you to use your numbers he could have his own authority, so the question is why does he want to run under your numbers? Do you have work for him and are trying to expand or is he trying to skirt around getting his own authority?
