    Whats the maximum on steers?

My steers say 6175 Maximum load,so that makes 12350 lb,right? All states agree with that?

You might pass for 12350, just depends who you come across but I never go pass 12.

More or less, you cannot exceed the weight rating of the axle though.

On my old Pete, I never had 12 on the steer. I usually had the 5th wheel slid back, it rode better, and steered easier. (armstrong steering) I think the most I ever had was 11 once. I didn't have many scales to cross, and if I had a heavy load, I'd just go around them. Nowadays with setback steer axles, you can be over on the steer pretty easy.

i weigh 12,400 with full tanks. haven't been stopped yet.

the general weight rating will be 12,350. that's pretty standard tire rating.

It is the lowest of the following:

    Axle
    Tire
    Road

Some axles are only rated for 12,000; others 12,350, 12,500 13,000, 14,000 etc. Check door plate (or better yet- the axle)

Steer tires are typically rated for 6175 - 7830lbs. Note that it is possible to exceed 6175 lb on one tire without exceeding 12,350 on the steer axle...

The national network of roads is rated for 20,000 lbs on a single axle, but other state highways can be rated for less; Arkansas, for example, has a 12,000 lb limit on steer axles (and for a while they were incorrectly citing people on the national network).

Years ago with just the small scales, (Ill and some Wis. scales) they wouldn't even check the steers.

For this info you can look at the tables in the front of the Rand McNally motor carriers atlas.

Yeah, you can go over 12,000 on a steer axle. How much is determined by the rating of the axle and tires, and also that you are not over total gross weight. I have gone over 12,000 up front many times over the years, and I have not had a problem from any of the 48 states, yes, even when crossing the state scales. Now, you go up to 13K, you had better have a 13K rated axle and tires to match.
