It doesn't need to be a day cab unless the company specifies, but a condo will be a pain. The driver has to have a spotless driving record and at least a couple of years (most places.)
Earning depends on your area, what the company provides, and how the pay is structured. If the company sells you diesel for wholesale (about 1.15 a gallon) they may withhold the surcharge. If they go to further locations, then you will get a bit more money for the run, but will have to do less runs. You can bring home good money and be home every night. Seniority is also big. The more you stay with them, the better you will know the office people, and get better loads.
Truck spec, you can purchase a day cab, or one of the perspective companies old trucks, but do that after working for that company for a while to see the pay and if they are a long term place. for the first truck, assuming you don't have one, get a mid roof/ flattop sleeper just because you don't know what will happen with that company. You don't need a huge 70 inch midroof, a 36-48 inch will work fine. The other good thing is you can find a good local shop because you are local.PALOU Thanks this. -
Not sure where the OP is located but in the northeast the owner ops are seasonal for the most part. Didn't really pay a whole lot more than anything else when I was doing it. Was a pretty easy gig though. Mostly company trucks around here now
