    Hello,

I am an owner operator of a power only truck. I am new to the trucking industry with only 1 year under my belt. I am currently hauling loads for Ryder all over the country and my starting point is out of Los Angeles. They are paying me per mile. I was receiving about $1.55 per mile. I do not have a trailer of my own.

Everything was ok until the last few weeks. Supposedly now that the price of diesel has been lowered, they are paying 20 cents less per mile than before. The last trip I was on they paid me $1.35. I am really unhappy with the current situation I have with them but because I do not have any expertise in the industry, I don't know where to go to find better opportunities.

Are there any other companies that you can recommend me to work with that will pay better?

there are lotsa trailers advertising for o/o's. anywhere from $.90 to $1.01 per mile.

sammons, landstar, mercer, admiral merchants, and farm2fleet all have trailers that you rent. or even lease purchase. and they all pay better then your $1.55 you WAS getting.

Landstar is a good place to run. You can learn the loadboard fairly easy and there's a lot of freedom. Only caveat is learning that Landstar is getting 35% of the rate, so be careful on those loads that are iffy on pay.

If you have your authority, purchase, lease or rent a trailer. Subscribe to loadboard and get loads through brokers. You can get better rates then you were getting.

Rates are a bit on the stinky side right now, diesel has come down some so everybody is talking like it's somehow cheap. Those of us buying it can attest that it is anything but cheap. Hopefully enough of us will start holding the line to force rates upward a bit into reality. Right now people are hauling for around a buck a mile for some reason. They can have that cheap freight if they want it but they are jeopardizing their own survival by doing so.

farm2fleet is a good choice. Yes I'm there. I lease a 2014 Wabash trailer and the rates are what you set them at. Give them a call while they are still Leasing on. They don't want to get to big. Run where and when you want. They only get 20%. You choose your loads from anywhere and they take the risk of getting paid. You get paid every week. I'm glad I came. I tried Landstar a few years ago and this is a lot better.
