this is a HUGE reason why rates never move forward,Spot market or not.

my advice to you is get some experience in the clerical/sales side of the business...because We sorely don't need another guy saying "what load pay"? or "ok,I do load"


If you still are aiming high as a business owner of a truck..Please market yourself professionally and target your own customers via contract rates.......Don't let the brokers have their way with you...They can smell you coming a mile away....Your a T-bone steak medium well for their afternnon deligfht

Sorry to ruin your day but if you have gotten this far without knowing the answer, you need to reconsider this - seriously.

the first thing you need to ask yourself is how much do I need to survive at home and then how much will it cost me to run the truck - add them together and then plan on that as your bottom line. Take time to talk to an accountant and lawyer both to setup the company structure properly for your needs (try hard to avoid an LLC - they don't help) and then work with the accountant to learn how to keep books, how to make decisions for the business and so on.

Too many people fail at this game because they think they can make great money being an owner while it takes time just to set it up so not to increase the chances of failure by 1000%.

 

What type of trailer and where do you want to run would be helpful , also knowing your CPM ( Cost per mile ) is a big factor in knowing the rate / mile you can work for and stay in operation

 

So, more or less you dont want to do your homework before you start an o/o venture? Sounds like you are hell bent on learning by the school of hard knocks.

 

Seems like no-one ever wants to put in the time and effort to learn the business.
