We have 2 trucks. The first one was first registered 5/30/2013. The second was first registered 8/9/2013. This is the first time I am doing the IRP renewal myself (had a local trucking agency do it before). I have a little bit more time on my hands these days and want to save a couple bucks, not to mention try and understand the IRP renewal. This is the first time I believe I am using actual miles for IRP. Im assuming the previous times for the 2014 (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014) and 2015 (April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015) registration year the agency used estimates because the first time I ever reported miles for IFTA was during 2013 Q3 (which is also the first quarter to use to report miles for 2016 IRP). http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/cft_irp25.pdf Go to page 22 of the booklet or page 26 of the file. You will see the chart of application year and distance period reportable. For application year 2014 and 2015 we did not have any reportable distance because it was a new company. So for this year 2016 is the first year I have actual miles that I can report. (I could have also clicked on the option of estimated miles and agreed to something blah blah I dont remember what it said) Take a look at the pdf file I attached. It shows the miles in each state, quarter and year that we ran. (Had like 1 or 2 trips that ran from IL to CA and back. The rest is local work in IL and CA for those wondering.) That is what I reported to the online filing on IL cyberdrive website. The rest of the states in which we did not travel had a value of 0. My concern is that there did not seem to be an option to select which states I want to be plated in. Does anyone know if IL automatically does all 48 for you? How does this work? I selected a weight group of 80,000 for all the states. Put in my trucks info, confirmed the VIN was good and whatnot, pressed next and that was basically it. Then it generated the invoice (attached). I have also attached last years invoice for reference (both trucks are included for the full year but Im assumed using estimated reporting).

Is this a normal amount for 2 trucks? From what I read on this forum, seems like people are paying up to $2000 (for a single truck) and some as low as $1200 (for a single truck) because they selected exactly which states they want to operate in (however I believe it was for home states other than IL, if that makes a difference). $5004/ 2 is over $2500/ truck! Is this normal, should I just write the check(bitterly) or what?!

Your input is appreciated. Thank you

Someone else can chime in but I think this has all changed. There is no estimated or actual mileage used or what states you want to run in. I think you get them all and pay just one price.

    Anyone?

Just renewed mine on Friday, you still use your mileage but you get all states & Canada now.The price is determined by the miles ran in each state.

Did mine in November, it was still the same using actual or estimated mileage. However it was about $1400 per truck, not $2500.

Its true that you cannot select states or provinces now. You can run anywhere now without needing temp permits. Its a good move though. However your premium will be calculated based on your last year run in each state. I wonder how much new applicants will pay. I paid $2200 ( base plate Ontario) last year for 6 states and two provinces. Later I found out Ontario plate has the highest premium in North America. Mine is due in May 2015. Lets see.

The change over to the 48 state plus Canada was sposed to go into effect for registrations after jan 1, 2015. Some states started a bit earlier.

Mine was up nov 30; but I did it early got it back early October: same old setup. Friend of mine did his triaxle early November and the switch had been made (sent me a pic of his new reg & a wtf? )

Are they using actual mileage only now? The reason I ask is that it will not be fair if someone is only running a few states and is forced to pay the estimated for all states.

Ok, just got off the phone with IRP and got the REAL INFO!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I renew my plate I will only pay for the states and mileage I traveled through. There is NO MORE estimated.....BUT...If your a new entrant you will be charged the estimated for all states for your first year.

If anyone wants to argue I suggest you call IRP like I did.

Yes, cost is based on actual mileage. Just that you'll now have the option to run all 48 without trip permits (if you weren't registered for all 48 before)
