it is not animosity towards KR that keeps me interested but learning that karma does eventually get to the most famous of hucksters does bring comfort

I didn't say that I endorse all of his advice, or that working 1.30/mile is a good idea.
I said that it seems like the people here hate the guy, and then deny hating the guy. I don't have enough invested to say that I hate the guy. As a driver listening to his show I got an appreciation for how important it is to know the numbers of your business inside out, and I am still surprised how many O/O call in and can't tell him their cost per mile for fuel and truck payments, etc.
Please don't interpret my refusal to engage in trashing the guy as standing up for him, I just don't understand why some people here claim to not have it out for him and accuse everyone who does t bad mouth him as being a paid employee.
If I suspected ANYONE of being paid by KR it would be the folks who follow his every move and come post on TTR about him, his personal endeavours, etc.Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
So if you ran over my pet and I wished and hoped for something miserable to happen to you in return, in your mind, that is not animosity?
And if the garbage truck backed over you and I showed up pointing and laughing, I would harbour no animus, is that your position?
Just trying to understand what parallel universe we're visiting here. -
Rutherford has provided me with some management info I would never have thought about, and some maintenance ideas I use to save money but outside of that, I don't post my mileage to his what ever his site is or buy any of the crap he talks about on his word only.
I was given a couple turbo3000, I put one on one of the trucks to try it out. BUT instead of telling the driver about it, I was mean, I waited when he went on vacation so he wouldn't know what I did and then put it on. He got back and drove the truck without changing his behavior. At that time, that truck was assigned to a four month dedicate route with no route deviation and it was a real world test. The results were simple, it just didn't work, not a bit. So when the truck came back into the shop at the end of the assignment, the turbo3000 was taken off and put in the scrap bin here at the house.
If I would have listened to the great praise and BS about the turbo3000, I would have wasted my money.
If this happened, so it happened. Engines can and often fail for a lot of reasons, the best maintenance may never matter when something just gives out. I've got a truck that went through a in frame just a few months ago by a guy who I trust without a doubt and knows more about building engines than anyone I know - including the ones who make them. but we towed it 300 miles to get it back here after a bottom end failure, Nothing this guy did caused it, it was a bearing failure, just a bad half shell and the company that sold the bearing to the kit company is on the hook, so sometimes the best people have a failure.Hammer166, Raiderfanatic, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well - I hope he gets his truck sorted out and back on the road again.
I've listened to him for years - as a company driver, before buying a truck last year. I bought his KR scan guage, as I believe it's the best $200 tool you can buy to figure out yourself how to get better MPG. If I can get 7.33 MPG by adjusting my own driving habits, then I'm happy enough. I now realize the "I get a better rate, so don't worry about MPG" guys - are right. If you're consistently pulling $4/mile freight, who cares if you get 7.4 or 7.6 MPG. I'm unlikely to invest in any of the products that he endorses, just because he endorses them, or to pick up a tenth of a mile.
I use his Profit gauges accounting software, because I never was very good with computers, and haven't learned how to create and manipulate a spreadsheet.
And I use his Fuel gauges, because it's a nice easy tool to track MPG. And it's free. If he gets some analytical data from it, that's fine by me.
I'm constantly amused at people who hate him, bash what he does, pick on his every mistake or failure. It reminds me of a tall poppy culture I left years ago, and don't miss. As pointed out, he's about the only show on a 'trucking' channel that is worth listening to, and I think his efforts are overwhelmingly positive toward owner operators.
He has an opinion, like we all do, and you can simply turn the radio off if you don't like what he has to say.
I will give him credit for politely and consistently answering Karen's calls . . . she's a hopeless devoted fan . . . O Kayyyyyyyyy . . .
If it was another member on the forum - wouldn't we all be on here offering advice and help?Last edited: Apr 12, 2015

I always stand behind my words, and am not one to change or "deny" my prior opinion or my words.
My exact words were...
I don't deny disliking his methods and self-proclaimed 'expertise', at all. He does interject a lot of common sense and 'no brainer' info alongside his bs portion, so I tend to believe that is the main reason why he wins the trust of those with less mechanical or operating knowledge of their own trucks.
Your own statement about O/O's calling in, and being clueless on basic vital info, even supports this.
Ever notice why his main following is NOT expert diesel mechanics or proven reputable experts in the field?
For simplicity's sake, I liken him to a bad mechanic with a big bold mouth. Even a bad mechanic will do most of the work fairly satisfactorily.
But when it comes to the nitty gritty of that 'expert' performing up to his own self-proclaimed advisory status... he rates far short and too deceptive.
Like I said,, he has put out some good info... but when I figure in the obvious & numerous pieces of bs products/info... he loses all credibility with me.
BTW, for instance, the scangauge is a valid performance monitoring device, but it obtains it's 'core' valued info from many things a driver should already know.Raiderfanatic, Dale thompson, joseph1135 and 1 other person Thank this. -
