Hey sorry if this has been asked before,
I've been offered a pretty good price on a new scania that is 6x2 ( has lazy axle)
I've researched the hell out of it but can only seem to find articles written by truck makers that sell them.
I realise tyre wear in the drive axle will increase, but is their any other negatives to consider?
I don't go off road unless something's gone wrong.
Advise from those of you that have or have had one of these is much appreciated.

How much weight will you be hauling
-
Bugger all, I'm a car carrier.. 7 cars max.
About 35 tonnes, empty about 20. -
6X2 configuration has been used in Europe for years.
I drove a 2015 VOLVO 670 with an iShift transmission and super singles last year and had no issues with it. -
Drive tire wear will roughly double. Your traction will be less, though low-speed traction isn't terrible if you have a locker & have a switch to dump the air going to the dead axle. Still, you won't be driving down the highway with the locker engaged and the tag w/o air, so on slippery roads expect less traction.
On the plus side, you have less weight, less mechanical inefficiency, & better rolling resistance (assuming you use proper tailer tires on the tag axle).
I would order a new truck with a tag axle. I'd buy one used. But I wouldn't pay to convert a properly functioning 6x4... -
Thanks for the imput fellas.

Had a couple 6X2s here. One had a locker and one didn't. Both pusher axles could be lifted from a dash control. We found loose sand to be the only thing they really couldn't handle like a 6X4. Even the one without the locker does far better than I would have ever expected when off road. As far as traction on road in ice/snow, I don't see the issue. A rearend isn't what keeps you from jackknifing, IMHO.
