I still have my Columbia, runs good, MPG is 6.5-7.00, cheap parts, easy to fix, but I am getting tired from the noise.
If there was a way to make this truck quiet, maybe I will keep it for 5 more years. But after driving my friend's 2015 Volvo 780 with d13, the difference is like day and night. The Columbia sounds like steam locomotive next to the Volvo. I can live with the bad ride, but the noise makes you very tired.
I was thinking to put a new rebuilt from Detroit engine for about $25 k, if this is going to kill the noise, the body is still good, APU is perfect.
What do you think?
What is the quietest truck on the market today?

I drove an '04 and '07 VNL 670's for over half a million miles and those were some quiet trucks inside the cab. You can whisper to anyone riding with you. Can't say that for any other trucks I evet drove. I know Volvo's don't score high as cool factor goes but I liked the ones I drove a lot. Very comfortable and turn on a dime. Easy to back. Almost like driving a car. I never liked the way it felt like I was surrounded by a bubble of glass and the whole world can see you from the seat up though lol. But other than that good trucks.
Badmon, Numb and russtrucker Thank this. -
Noise makes ya tired? wish some one would of told me before I had 6 kid's.
don't know what year your Columbia is but I can live with, noise, rough ride, & all the rest better than a truck payment or more of a truck payment. look at it this way, you'll likely never fall asleep while driving.feldsforever and rank Thank this. -

What kind of noise are we talking about? Could you replace all rubber around doors, windows and possibly boot around gear shifter, maybe behind dash where wires are run through, maybe use a rubberized sealant, might be cheaper than buying a new or different truck

U could have a quiet engine, but what when prime or tyson park next to u,or some one with a generator that shakes the ground.

The truck is 2007, 860k miles. I will change the exhaust manifold gasket, put new pipes and muffler and see the difference. So are you saying with new engine is not going to be quieter?

Its lack of sound deadening/insulation around the body. Add jute or something like dynamat throughout and it will make a world of difference. Its a lot of work.
Verdel Thanks this.
