Pre DPF or PRE EGR?

    Hey everybody, first time post but I have been reading the forums for a while. I am currently selling one of my companies and one to become a O/O of 2-3 trucks with 53ft flat bed trailers. My question is should I purchase trucks before 2007 withouth the dpf systems or get an older 2002 trucks without egr systems but no older then 2000? <br>I read on here some companies don't like trucks over 10 years old so would a 06 and up be better? I also dont plan on hauling to California since I will be based out of Atlanta where I stay but if in the future things get rolling and i get a good route out there I will get a newwe CARB complient truck.. And if it matters I'm looking at Peterbuilt 387s. Friend just bought an 06 with a cummins in it and I really like how that truck drives. <br>Any particular motor to look for or stay away from in those years?

    Schneider in Atlanta GA is selling good Freightliner Century's 2006. If you have money to spend, I would not go for a Cummins. You are about to make the most important decision in selecting the right truck. If you miss, get ready to lose everything that your former business $$$ generated!

    .Pre EGR engines have proven to be the most reliable and fuel efficient. I would go with a pre emission N14 Cummins or Detroit Series 60. Unless you are going to lease on with a company that will not let you have anyting older than 10 years. If that is the case a 587 with a ISX Cummins would be a good choice. The ISX has its problems, but after the bugs are worked out it is a strong engine. If you end up getting a truck with a DPF you can always have it deleted to improve fuel economy.

    I'm familiar with dpf deletes on chevy and ford duallys. How much does it cost for a Class 8 truck? I bet its alot more expensive then a duramax or navistar.

    If you get caught (which, granted, is a big IF), the fine is eye watering.

    Which is illegal in the US and has big fines. If a dealer finds out its delete they will make it get fixed.

    I'm not going to do a dpf delete. Not worth it to me. Just stick with older pre emissions trucks. Do 2002 and older non egr trucks get that much better fuel economy than pre 2007 trucks or is the extra maintenence of having a truck at least 4 years older not worth it?

    If you are 100% positive that your trucks will not be going to California, then a well maintained '03 and older truck is worth it's weight in gold, if you do decide to get some compliant trucks I would suggest that you or who ever is in charge of maintenance should learn how to CORRECTLY maintain the emission systems. If you have a little imagination and mid to upper level mechanical skills, then you can apply rawse's theory's to any class 8 motor EXCEPT the Acert from Caterpillar. And I do not mean to offend anyone but if you do not have a little imagination and mid to upper mechanical skills, then you should probably re-think the whole O/O thing. I don't care how good your guy is, if you don't do most of your own maintenance, and plan on paying someone, you will be relieved of your new found wealth in short order. I am not trying to be negative or hurt anyone's feelings, but I would hate to see you post 6 month's from now; I wish someone would have told me......

    I go with pre-emissions... currently running a mechanical Cummins. Previous was an N14.
