Hello all, when I was in Trucking school, ( March 2015) our teacher told us he used a Pick up Truck to do ""Hot Shots""

    I see the New 2015 Ford F-450 Cost $45-50 K
""fifth wheel towing capacity to 26,500 pounds, and gross combined weight rating to a 40,000 pounds""
    http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/2015-ford-f-series-super-duty-has-top-torque-hp-and-t-1537714126
Vs the Big Rig Used 40 K to New @ 90,000 ish

    Questions are
    1) what is the Correct name that is these Hot-Shots?? When I search Hot Shots I get Fishing.
    2) I know in trucking Miles is the Primary Factor in Making money can a Commercial Pick up ( F450 ) get the Loads??
    3) I called a few places and there all like unless you have a truck they to busy to talk...
    Thank you for the Help.

A new truck is more like 135-165 .. Depending what you want. It will also live much longer than the smaller pickup truck will. You could make money with that pickup, if you have customers who need a setup like you can provide. It would be tough on the open market to make it with that setup. If you could find a regular customer who needs what you have, and cannot ship on a big truck for whatever reason, that would be a good way to start ... It will be an uphill battle no matter what way you look at it. Do your homework first then do it again before you spend any money ...

Another thing, ask your teacher why he isn't doing that work anymore ... He should tell you all the pros and cons from previously being in the business himself ...

My experience is that pickup trucks only get better fuel mileage when they're empty. And the pickup truck won't last nearly as long. You can buy a good used semi truck for less money than a pickup truck with the same future lifespan.

Only reason to buy a pickup is if you're a part time trucker and you use the truck for personal reasons.

Get both????? Check out a load board and see how many loads you would be able to haul in your area with your little truck. Why not get used little truck?

Why if you're just in driving school March 2015 are you trying to buy ANY truck? Learn to drive and how this industry operates then after you get experience then look into buying.
