my main headquarters is in Louisiana and I want to get apportioned in Indiana I see big companies doing that with no terminal or office there all the time would I need an agent in that state to do that. problem is louisiana sucks for trucking they make everything so different plus insurance is the highest in the country here. I want to make things easier for myself and my drivers. how would I go about doing this.

You legally cannot. It is against IRP rules. You would need a staffed physical presence in the state to qualify for an IRP in that state. If you don't believe me, that's fine, but you can google Oklahoma IRP lawsuit to find out why it is what it is.

The mega's have yards in In.. That's how they can do it.
May not be a big fancy yard but they have a yard or office setup in that state

Yeah you can have an "office" somewhere in the state. Even if it's 150 sq ft. that you lease for $200/mo. That's your presence.

You typically have to have an employee or yourself available during business hours as well.
All they need is an office and employee as stated above. For a mega, that is no big deal, for the savings they can get by going to a state with no rolling stock tax and a friendly IRP system.

Can a driver from another state lease on to him, with the drivers plate on the drivers truck?
