Okay here is my dilemma. It's a bunch of guys with no trucks saying it isn't money in owning a truck. I currently work hard making about 36 a year working sometimes 12 hours a day and it's a very physical job. Im wondering will it beneficial to buy a used truck and do some local work at the ports (Norfolk and portsmoth va) I'm not looking to make a million just easier work way less physical and maybe 45k or more a year. I don't know anyone locally that can help me with my questions

I drive locally for a dairy company. We have to load and unload our trucks daily very very physical. I've worked for Pepsi before just as phycisal with more money. I haven't driven over road before just locally. Refrigerated units side load trailers and regular tractors

There's never money in containers regardless of overall economic conditions the rates always suck. Unless you are chaining a can to a step deck. Your friends are right. Every other kind of freight appears to be in a big slump right now also. Really though there is no time like the present. If you want to do this and are hard headed just go for it. No-one was ever going to tell me any different. Don't cry if you break even or worse the 1st year cause that is usually how it goes for o/o start ups.

Thanks guys. I'm going to keep researching. I just had the crazy impression from truck driving school that I was going to be making 70k or more. That was a load of crap here it is five years later and haven't seen 50k

Sounds like your not afraid of a little hard work. I would look into car hauling companies that operate in your area. Probably the best gig out there in the trucking industry for a company driver.

Yes 50k gross a year. And that's about where I am is the 36-38 range. I don't have tanker experience but I'm about to get my twic card hazmat and tanker. I really want this cdl to work for me the same way a degree works for a college student.
