what is the deal with these guys anyone else find drivers too demanding? I have this one driver seems pretty new to the whole owner operator game he wont take any freight over 30,000 lbs says. his first load he said he wouldnt make any money yet the load paid $2.19 a mile and said he wasnt going to make any money. now im starting to see why he sat for 5 days with his last company. isnt it better to take the $2 a mile freight then to sit its not like hes losing money after all cant get much better with dry van. then he tried telling me he cant even scale out at 44,000 LBS with a 2005 international how can you not scale 44,000 lbs

I knew a driver that would not take heavy loads,,,I never looked at the weight as long as the rate was good,, There are many owner operators that might be good drivers but have no business skills,,
As for weight had a friend buy a new trailer several years ago,,bragged about the good deal,,sure the price was good but the trailer was so heavy his empty weight was over 38,000lbs, knocked him out of the ball park for many loads,,

Ask him why he prorated his truck for 80,000.

The difference between a puppy and a truck driver, the puppy will grow up and quit whining.

thats the problem I think is no business skills. I was never concerned with weight just the miles the rate and destination are my focus I have been doing this a while and I can tell right off the bat without doing any math weather im gonna make money or not. he called me up when we was trying to register his tags and told me he decided he was just going to get his own authority and go on his own. then I asked him if he filed his boc, ucr, if he had a drug testing program and extra money for fuel to hold him over till he gets paid then I asked him if he had $3,000 down payment for insurance and about a month or 2 to wait for authority to go through plus signed up to ifta etc etc then he was like I dont know i needed all that and i told him that's why your not ready for your own authority. now looking back maybe I should have just agreed with him and let him take the fall. I dont see how he is ever going to make any money only taking loads less then 30,000 lbs We get some but not enough to support an owner operator. I know shippers like to give less for lighter loads maybe thats why I haven't seen many cause I always go after the higher paying loads.

Not to shabby then. I get a kick out of some of these guys bragging about the $2.00/mile load they are offering on 200 miles. Not even worth the time involved.

yeah I agree for 200 miles i get $3.00-$4.00 a mile and then even that doesn't seem worth it as a rule of thumb I don't like to take any load less then $1000 i dont care if its to drive across the street. if its gonna kill my entire day should pay a minimum of $1000 for the day

You'd be amazed how many dummies don't know how to slide tandems and set the axle weight. Bet you money this kid doesn't know how. Just goes to show even lowly no brainer dry van can be a handful for some people. The best solution for picky drivers who don't like the loads you are booking is to give them access to the loadboards and let them learn or fail the hard way. I used to be picky when I first started doing this and someone else was finding the loads. Then I got fed up and started looking myself and realized what they were up against. Everybody just thinks they can buy a truck and deserve a rate just because.
