Pulling a dry van. Had to take a load last week for less for 1.80/mile. Have to take the same one this week. I've called a pluthera of brokers and getting awfully low rates. Thinking of taking off next week, or heading elsewhere. Have been going from NC to Pennsylvania and back for a few months but not liking the rates at the moment.
How are you boys and gals coping? Taking off a week or two or heading West?

We get all the money on the outbound. I've deadheaded home two weeks in a row. Had a steady deal out of nj,new broker came in and cut the rate $250.
-
Yeah it's unfortunate. I have a solid rate out of NC with a particular broker. But going back "home" is low. Also I have to deadhead 130 miles to get home the past 2 weeks from where I deliver in NC.

company in Gordonsville Va called Intertrans Carrier brokers loads out of there going to NJ and north ,,20 years ago they were paying $2/mile
-
Going north isn't the problem,it's coming south. I sat all day Monday looking, most loads payed $1-1.10 per mile. We have direct freight going up,they end up paying round trip rates.
Big_D409 Thanks this. -
Same here. Going south from PA has been weak the past few trips.
-
I've spent a good amount sitting at the house trying to find something going south. My issue is the time constraint sadly. Towards the end of the week you can get better rates, IF it's not all gone! Definitely a gamble and was a 50/50. I'm on the consistent freight (AL to NY) every week, so trying to get NY to halfway or further is a PITA... Pepsi over in Carlisle, PA almost always has loads going south to NC, but depending on your operating expenses, it may only cover fuel cost.....

There is a broker who I checked with three different loads posted with soda going to NC. Paid 600, 550 and 600. I don't even bother calling in anymore. If I see the name I skip it immediately. Comes out to roughly a dollar a mile not to mention the weight was 44k everytime I called.
-
I managed to get 850 before, but that was because a previous truck didn't show. How far into the north do you run?
-
I generally run to PA. Up to Taylor is the farthest I've been. I took a couple loads to OH as well. The runs I have from NC to PA are super light with solid rates which is good. I used to get 950-1100 from PA but the rates are getting cut like crazy. "summer special" one broker told me. I said good luck and hung up.
Scary that there's still people hauling the 500-550 rates
