I just purchased a truck in Oklahoma city OK.
I had to go through 7 states to get it home. OK, TX, NM, CO, UT, OR, WA
In Colorado, the states where I had the least amount of travel asked me to pay for permits, and taxes on fuel (because I did not purchase fuel in their state and don't have an ifta sticker) approximately $70 worth.....I argued with them, I told them nobody makes a bobtailing truck, fresh out of the dealership, pay when they are trying to get the truck home, I even called another Colorado office, who told me they don't normally charge a new truck passing through under temporary permits/tags.
Of course the Manager at the Cortez CO scale was a woman, <Mod edit: No sexist content please.> and not capable of thinking past what is written in the book.
I told her:
It isn't even making money yet, you can hardly consider it commercial, it is not registered, it is not leased under any company yet. there is no trailer.
And worst, can you imagine every states charging for this.... an extra $420 on spending I did not plan on.
Finally she let me off the hook.
But warn me that rules are rules and next time I will pay.....there won't be a next time....FXXX Colorado

I heard Colorado is not the best state as far as scales, cops, gov. and such....all about the revenue like "BanditTrucker" mentioned.
They take themselves a little too seriously and <Mod edit: Politics content deleted>, next thing you know, no one left with any brain to speak of. and you can't unseat them.
A bit like WA state....
I should move to Texas .... : )Last edited by a moderator: May 5, 2015

CO is as bad as Cali. If you don't regularity roll the scale they pull you in to check everything. They enter your dot number you roll the scale. So new truck equals $$$$. Dot people are pretty strict here. So there's no way of sweet talking your way out of things here. Have your stuff together whenever you roll a CO scale or avoid them.
nofilter Thanks this. -
At the risk of banning,
This is one of the worst examples of our industry
This is not political correctness, it is common sense and decency. You want to tell off color jokes, great , do it when you are out of earshot of people it might offend.
And further, why should you get "special" treatment from the state of Colorado or it's representative? You are not registered for the state and are traveling through it. I would love to not pay the state of OK $500-$1000 for less than 40 miles when I cross the panhandle, after all it's a rule.
I think it would be best to re-examine your plan if a $70 trip permit is going wreck your plan.Jumbo, MrEd, Cranky Yankee and 2 others Thank this.
