yes they only do indy and charlotte for choice. But they pay you $.50/mi to bobtail there. think mine was $465
you can also do the regular orientation in dallas and they will dispatch you to indy to or NC to do the choice. the choice part is just a few hours of class the rest of the time is regular orientation.
I will just mention a few things that impressed me. First off it's like every other person has worked there 20 years and you rarely see that. also the vast majority of the people in the office that have any interaction with drivers are ex drivers themself.
sni has some real funny ideas on a few things but i9n all i'm impressed and to be honest I never thought i'd say that about a big company. I think being a privately held company makes all the difference in the world. they are able to make decisions based on sound business practices rather then just making them based on making short term profits to shut the share holders up

im kinda curious about doing the lease program as well. the thing is im on a dedicated account now and would love to continue doing it especially if i could do it as a lease. how does that work? im home every week as of right now. back at the DC every night almost. run from iowa to illinois and back. 1-4 stops usually. easy reefer runs. but the thought of owning my own truck would be awesome. can you do small runs, be home every week and still make money?

I have been doing Choice out of Dallas for the past 10 months and have very little to complain about. The frieght around Dallas is decent and the rates are fair. It just have to remember you are NOT chasing miles on this program, you are chasing revenue. If I can make $3000 running 2000 miles instead of of $3000 running 2700 miles I am making a good paycheck. It is easy to make good money on this program but you must use yor head. Keep fuel cost down by driving at a reasonable speed and remember the higher your truck payment the less you bring home. So many guys make a mistaske in getting a costly truck.

what are the payments like? id probably have to do the mileage program since i only have a year of experience. if i did get a truck im thinking something like this https://www.sfitruck.com/Info.aspx?VIN=349656 what are the costs like with the lease purchase? tire repair, blowouts, oil changes etc. i like to do research before venturing into a thing like this. what happens after a year? my roommate during the orientation said something like the lease is only for a year then after a year you have to make a huge balloon payment for the remainder of the loan amount or something like that. is that true? if so on his truck alone after a year he'd owe something like 30000 bucks. they cant really expect you to pay something like that can they?

Thats a very big price for that truck. It seems about $15000 to $20000 too high to me. I've heard the volvo engines get poor gas mileage also.
Expect your maintenance costs to hover around $1500 a month as you find yourself repairing/rebuilding the truck! -
""""""my first four loads with sni are $2.55/mi, $1.75/mi/ $1.40mi(getting back out of tx) and $2.06/mi""""""
Is it possible for a more complete accounting of those loads such as length of haul and deadhead to pick-up each one?? and , the fuel surcharge was included in those rates also i assume? -
I avg under 50 miles to deadhead to p/u a load and length of haul is always different. I try to stick to under 400 miles a day and work 5 days a week.
My avg has been around $1,800 bring home after fuel in a 5.5mpg truck, running about 1800 miles a week.Travelinman Thanks this. -
MedicineMan Thanks this.

One more thing... If that truck was on at Schneider it only averaged 73,000 mile per year.... not enough to make a living. It may have been sitting around for a while looking for a fresh buyer.
A good friend of mine recently quit Schneider and returned the truck to Schneider Finance. He was running team with his wife. He had been there at least two years but found himself getting behind in everything and saw no reason to keep going so he bailed. Now every situation is different but there was a guy who stayed out weeks at a time, ran hard and just couldn't make a go of it.
I have no idea what program he was under... just wanted you to know.Last edited: May 18, 2011
