If you watch the episodes closely yes you can see company names, truck numbers and DOT numbers, on some of the trucks.

Thats ok deputy its your story, tell it the way you like. I have heard the interviews and seen the specials on the trick my truck program where the members were interviewed, how the personalities were chosen, AND how the candidates are chosen. Random???? Not from the shows I have seen.
They choose the best human interest story then investigate the claims for validity (which have been submitted by o/o's, relatives of o/o's and friends of o/o's). I am sure the story line is exaggerated (in the name of entertainment) as is the so called "confrontation."

You sound so proud of your rig and what your doing thats great. For you. I for one have more pride than accepting charity when I am perfectly capable of fending for myself. Going on a nationally televised program with your hat in hand must have been pretty humiliating or maybe you just don't look at that. This explains the Jerry Springer dynamic quite well.

As for my pay I have made no secret of what I make as a company driver. My yearly gross is a little over 70 grand AND home each weekend. Take home pay is right around a grand per week but then again I pay extra for aflac insurance, life insurance, and contribute to my 401k as well.

I have always posted my remarks in regard to a LEASE Purchase which is nothing more than a glorified company driver. Review my posts and you will see I speak the truth.
    Companies have found a wonderful way to get more work out of wannabe o/o's and cut their expenses all the while raising the companies profits. Take a good hard look at what these companies are offering;

A company truck, thats more often than not, a couple of years old.

A weekly lease payment thats due wether the truck moves or not.

Escrow accounts and mandatory maintenance accounts.

Road use taxes, fuel tax filings, 2290 etc may be covered under the .90 cpm or they may not. The only way to be sure is to get the lease contract and study it preferrably with a cpa or lawyer familiar with trucking.

A payment schedule that is double the trucks actual worth (smarter to lease it to a wannabe than sell it on the used truck market). Repossess the truck if the driver fails (then they can resell, or release it again).

A driver to pay for the trucks fuel.

No more workers comp fees for the company.

    No more bobtail insurance premiums.

No more paying for truck washes.

    No more Medical insurance costs.

    No more Dental Insurance costs.

    No more Vision Insurance costs.

    No more prescription card costs.

No more paid time off wether it be vacation, personal days off, sick days off, holiday pay etc.

Maintenance issues such as pm's and repairs are now on the wannabe o/o.
The new wannabe o/o will run his/her tail off (many times disregarding the hos) to maximize the miles they get in a week and make more money.

Many lease programs not only charge for the qualcomm installation but also charge the o/o for usage.

Other fees are common as I have stated in prior posts so I will not waste my time by posting them again.

Examples of companies that have charged for these items in the past are the following; FFE, CRST, England, Prime, TSL, and Burlington Motor Carriers. These are just a few that I researched in the past that had many of these practices. 2 are now out of business, Prime lost a major lawsuit and had to re-write its leases. England and FFE are borderline and claim everything is clear in their written lease contracts and the operators either accept it or dont work there.

    .90 cpm plus fuel surcharge
many do not pay 100% off the surcharge either (they pocket a chunk of it for themselves and heres a news flash for you; ITS LEGAL! because the wannabe 0/0 signed a contract).

The taxes fall 100% on the new o/o including double the social security tax and it is his/her responsibility to file and pay his estimated quarterly taxes on time. Many do not realize this and wind up owing the IRS not only the tax but interest and penalties.

I decline your challenge of comparing paycheck to paycheck as this is like trying to compare apples to oranges.

I encourage YOU and anyone else that challenges my statements to pick up a magazine the next time you stop at your favorite truckstop and leaf through it. Look at what they are offering for compensation. Then take those figures and actually anylize them based upon your knowledge and experience.
Try to duplicate the pay and benefits an employee will receive at a good paying company using the published rates in the magazine. I bet you come to the same conclusion I do. A company driver will make MORE money and have LESS aggravation and hassle as compared to a "lease purchase operator."
    In case you all forgot what a "good company offers" here are examples of good paying companies;
Any Teamster Company, Frito Lay, Walmart, Sherwin Williams, BMT, Jevic, New Century (LTL division), etc.
Benefits should include the following; Pension and/or 401k with employer match.
    Workers comp insurance.
Life insurance, disability insurance paid by company.
Paid vacation, Paid sick time, Paid personal days off, paid holidays, break down pay, layover pay, congestion pay, detention pay, unloading pay, safety bonuses, Hourly pay for any dock time, Overtime pay after 40 hours,
Medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, prescription card, all either paid by the company or at the very least discounted.

I get almost all these benefits with the exception of pension and hourly pay for dock work but in place I get referral bonuses and if I happen to deliver a load on the weekend an extra 50 bucks for that (if the customer requested weekend service). My weekly gross pay is around 1350 per week with around 40 to 48 hrs off each week.

Union drivers will gross several hundred more per week and can get close to 100 grand as a company driver. Factor in all the above benefits and the compensation goes even higher. Best of all no worries about truck payments, taxes, or breakdowns.

So please use that amazing intellect of yours to quantify the aforementioned benefits then try to duplicate them with the paltry .90 cpm rates plus fuel surcharge.

Cant do it can you? I rest my case.

Your a little too full of yourself jlkklj777,Yor also preach by what you see on tv and what you read rather what you actually know by your own experience. How petty it is for someone such as yourself to preach and make false statements regarding things that you never experienced nor ever will experience. Maybe jealousy? I do not know nor do I care. When someone talks about things they have no actual knowledge of , what is it if it is not jealousy , is it that you may be one of those drivers that know it all and have done everything and been everywhere and seen it all ? You sound like a know it all but in reality you sound gullable to be truthful.
In one of your posts you stated clearly that co's charge to drop trailers? I asked which ones you know for sure, You named some co's and dropped your suggestion that they charge to drop trailers? I know for a fact that TSL ( Fort Smith,Ar. ) never even had leased drivers,My Uncle retired from them.
If your making $1350 a week before taxes , I'm happy for you. Most Co drivers do not make that much on a consistant basis. Most all otr co drivers get 1 day of for 7 out. Averitt gets you home for 36 hours every weekend. If getting home late Friday night or early Sat. morning and leaving Sunday night is good for some drivers I'm happy for them as well. I for one do not like getting to spend a lousy 38 maybe 48 hours at home. I enjoy being home and spending time with the wife, family and pets and doing stuff other then driving a truck. 48 hours isnt much time if you really think of it,besides if you need to do something on a weekday OOPPS, you can't ,maybe occassionly but not every week if you want too.
As I stated before there are guys making great money and doing what they like as Co drivers and there are people just getting by as Co drivers, the majority is not making $70k a year with getting valuable hometime off.
FFE does charge the lease driver lots of charges, they pretty good though if you pull LTL.But like you said too many charges.
When you talk down about something you have never experienced first hand just means you are misinformed or a know it all.Speak from your own experience!!! not someone you do not know!! haha You believe everything a truck driver tells you ?? Come on you should know better then that .Live your own experiences and tell them truthfully, dont tell some about stuff you only read about or seen on a tv show !!
As for Brickman,no there are not DOT numbers on the trucks on the TV show. They showed my trailer and thats all they showed. I have been there,I have seen it, I have experienced it. As well as the 8 drivers I met and talk to on a daily basis. No the trucks are not that bad off before the show,my truck was in mint condition before the show as well as some other drivers I have met.

jlkklj777 again you speak from ignorance re: Trick My Truck, please use actual knowledge or some real experience re: the info you preach. You really sound like a know it all on here. Varuna Studios has a sign up.Drivers then have there trucks inspected. Once done with truck inspection they have a interview. They as you what you like as hobbies, what you would like to see on your truck etc. They do not ask anything about your financial status.Yes they do ask you for some info to share too make the show more interesting and too have a STORYLINE.They do exaggerate the story to some extreme.Yes a human interest story too make an audience !!The actual driver has to be there not family.
Yes I'm proud of my truck, before the show and after the show. Is it charity ? LMAO no it's not charity. What would be humiliating? Having a once in the lifetime experience? Getting a truck makeover? Meeting new friends ? Getting to meet lots of people on the road? Going to truck shows and meeting people who say they enjoyed the show ? Having kids come up too you and say your truck is awesome? Showing the world on TV I have a life outside of trucking? ( you can do that with more then 48 hours off ) NOPE not humiliated but proud of it. Thousands of drivers signed up and only the few of us won the chance ! That means something and it doesnt mean humiliation by any imagination. We even got my Sheriff's Office on TV, our County is now on the map for those who never even knew about it.

The only thing about the way you preach in here is that you sound like it is all facts, when you do not know for sure about those facts, you say read it ? or seen it on tv! So it must be truth uh ?? Your easily bedazzled .

Brickman please name the truck with DOT numbers and Co lettering thats clearly seen for me ? Thanks

.90 cents a mile w/fuel surcharge of .37 isnt a o/o ? why is that ? not too many o/o make much more then that? Very few make over $1.75 a mile. Then take away all the expenses and back down to what most o/o's make !!

Happy New Year, dont drink and drive we'll be watching !!!!

I've seen what I've seen sitting on my couch watching my TV. I do not care if you were there or not. One thing for certain you WERE NOT THERE ON EVERY show.

Thank you for stopping calling me a liar.

One of the Landstar Ranger trucks featured. I believe there were two.

Dude you've got just as big of a attitude problem that you are accusing jlkkjl777 of having.

Yeah kinda sad when deputy has to bash someone for differing views. I noticed he didnt want to take the time to crunch the numbers nor pick up a magazine advertising for owner ops or independant contractors. For tax purposes they all claim to be o/o's wether they be lease, lease purchase, own their truck out right, or even have their own authority.

As for TSL the company downsized in 1998 from around 600 trucks to 300 trucks after they lost the Carrier account. The original owner ( a fella that owned a bank if memory serves me) got tired of losing money and agreed to sell the company to the new management team in 1999. The new management team began a lease purchase program and about a dozen drivers (myself included) took a shot. Here are some of the details of the lease; A full service lease, truck payments of $400.00 per week, (they covered any maintenance and breakdowns) we paid for fuel, bobtail insurance, trip pak, etc. We received .83 cpm plus .07 cpm fuel surcharge. At the end of the lease we were supposed to turn our trucks back in and then they would help us buy a new truck of our choice and they would co-sign for the loan and use the truck we had been leasing as a down payment. At the end of the year they did not have the credit necessary to fulfill their end of the deal and lost half their lease operators. I was dumb enough to stay after they agreed to lower my payments (as long as I took on the added responsiblity of the maintenance and breakdowns). I had already built up an escrow of several thousand dollars and figured I could ride it out for the next 18 months (they agreed to sign the truck over to me at the end). After about 6 more months the company had lost so much money they agreed to sell out to Burlington Motor Carriers in 2001. Burlington wanted to rewrite my lease and put me in a different truck. I had been burned enough at that point and handed my keys over. I told the Burlington rep I wasnt for sale even if they bought out TSL lock stock and barrell.
I do not know anything about your relatives deputy but you are misinformed about TSL and the lease purchase they offered.
I believe this should be enough info to prove what I have said.
Do me a favor and agree to disagree. We will let others view our differing points of view and make their own judgements as to who is more truthful.

Wow .... i would have to agree with Brickman .... a couple people are full of their self .... as for .90 cpm .... that aint a lease operator or owner operator thats a sucker

I lease with my company .... i get 80% of the loads .... 100% of fuel surcharge (anywheres from .35 - .45 cpm) .... plus stops and tarp .... look at Broncriders postings .... he is at the same company .... tell me that you wouldnt be able to make it with the money that he has gotten

For some .... L/O and O/O aint for them .... they cant handle the stress and the management aspect of it all and that is why they fail .... i know one fool that did it with JB Hunt .... he lost everything (was actually glad to .... hehehe)

If you arent paying attention to details you wont make it .... they may be paying you .83 cpm and .07 cpm but they are certainly making double that on the loads and probably 5x that on the fuel and shafting you .... RESEARCH it all and make sure you know what you are getting into
