With fuel being what it is right now it's not worth it unless you have good contracts with a Fuel Surcharge. Trying to negotiate a Fuel Surcharge over a loadboard is nearly impossible. Brokers know that some small company will take the load without a FSC eventually.

LOL yes I am a woman and I tried to give the facts. I'm not always right nor do I know everything, nor will I know everything, I just share what I personally have experienced so you can make informed decisions.
    Good Luck

As a follow up, I have taken all the steps to obtaining my own authority, by Febuary 1st the new business will be up and running.... Now its time to put in the hard work and make this business profitable for both myself, staff and my contractors.

Like Matthews has mentioned it is a lot of work and not something that would be recommended for someone brand new in the business. You will definitely need some capitol, but if you can get it done then you will definitely be making more money in the long run.

I will add you must have your own trailers, else, you are still mostly captive to somebody.

I purchased my own trailer, and I have been in this business for over 16 years... The Authority is the only thing new to me, I have been reading and reading and done some more reading on here, the DOT FMCSA and the reast of the internet. Im learning from a text book stand point, and I am anxious to grab the real world experience good and bad...

does the truck and trailer need to be registered in your name to obtain everything necessary to become an o/o?

    here is the scenario...

truck is owned by my brother and at the moment the truck is just sitting. my cousin, who has been a company driver for about 8 yrs, is looking to go o/o with his own authority.

    question...

can the truck, whose pink slip is in my brothers name, be used so my cousin can get everything involved (ins, 2290, ifta, irp, bit, etc.) to go o/o with own authority without changing the pink slip?

i thank you in advance for constructive information.
