Obviously no one can predict what the future will hold, but what do you guys think will happen with the trucking industry in the next 10-20 years? Do you think it will still be a viable and stable industry? I'm only asking because fuel prices are skyrocketing, I keep reading that freight is slow, there are too many trucks, etc. Also, I just read in the paper that it sounds like they will be opening up the Mexican border to allow trucks to deliver in the US, or at least they are getting closer to pushing that through. Finally, I was listening to a talk radio show the other night and they were discussing ways to free up the highways and the big focus was to increase the amount of freight that is shipped via rail thereby decreasing the amount of trucks on the nations highways. Do you think there will be a bigger push for rail freight? I know it's cheaper, but I know it's also a lot slower and less practical for time sensitive freight.

That's a pretty relative question, although a good one. The bottom line is no one knows what the future holds. Personally, I don't see much of a decline in the industry taking place in our lifetime. I won't even get into the rail vs. truck debate. I'll let Tip handle that one, since he's the "expert" on the decline of the trucking industry.

That's true. I was just talking to my brother-in-law who works for BNSF and he said the same thing. They are slower this year because of the economy but last year they hired a record number of employees because business was so strong. They have slowed since but still remain busy.

Just remember to tell them that you can make it without them....but they can't make it without you.....

If you got it....a TRUCK brought it.....not a train.
