working for an owner operator or company?

Is there a difference in the pay? (Will you get more windshield time or less)
Does it include benefits or will you be on your own?
How well do you get along with your prospective employer?

 

How long has the friend known this guy?

How long has he been in business?


If he's incorporated you can pre-lim by googleing his Corp's name for $35 you can get a Dun and Bradstreet report to see the shape of his Corp. Don't be embarrassed to ask questions about the prospective employer because if he's on the up and up, he'll run his own background (DAC Report) check on every prospective driver.

 

owner ops have a tendancy to be out f business tomarrow, and owe you money. I always liked driving or an owner op but that's me. 25% doesn't really translate tomore money, freight rates are low now. I was reading on CAD that TMC (who has allot of drivers on percentage) has recently broke there policy of not hauling for less then $1.25 a mile (which is miserable to begin with) some of those guys have said they have been dispatched on loads at $0.70 mile that would put you at 17.5 cents per mile. oh and then you'd still have to pay your own insurance. Do you know how much private health insurance costs?

 

I have my own insurance for self employed and it took 6 months of really seaching , and it costs me 140 month unlimited doc visits, 30 co-pays at tthe doc office

How do you drive for an owner-operator? An owner-operator owns and operates a truck. If he has drivers he is a small fleet owner.
