    Spoke to a lady today about putting my truck on hauling chips locally.

    Pays $4.42 per ton guys are averaging 28 tons per load. 4 to 5 loads a day each trip is 41 miles each way. $50 wk to run there trailer but you are then responsible for upkeep (this is scarry, just ask BOR he's in a deal like that) $115wk to run under there authority and insurance. Big problem is I'm not close to where they are loading or unloading. About 125miles deadhead per day.
    So, assuming 5mpg average and 5 loads per day I see the breakdown something like this dailly
    $625 income
    $350 fuel cost
    $ 31 trailer and insurance/authority
    _____
    $244 net per day not including maintenance and repairs.

    I'm far enough away I may not get 5 a day. The other BIG problem is she wants me to run 7 days a week

    pretty much what I said. I can go on the road and make money if I want to work 7 days a week. She then goes on to tell me "That's why we are trying so hard to get drivers.come on, help us out" I think she will continue to be "trying" to get drivers.

    Not only does the 7 day wk stink but even if you could store your rig and make your personal ride into a company vehicle for milage and tax purposes I wouldn't want to commute 250mi to work each day.

    No it is about 60 miles each way. 120 or so total. It's actually what I have been driving in my personal vehicle for about 7 years now.
    I wouldn't do 7 days. I wouldn't do local unless I could work 5 days and be off weekends, otherwise what's the point.
    Later she told me most the guys work 5 or 6 days, she kinda said that quietly as she wants someone to work every day. Who the heck would do that?
    I may call her back and tell her I'd may be interested but I'd only do monday through friday and expect to not be bugged about it. My biggest problem is that without advances I need about $3300 up front to cover fuel before money starts rolling in.

    That milage makes a huge difference from what I had calculated..is there a safe lot for your truck? If your daily driver gets 15mpg's rather than 5 it would certainly reduce costs. I've commuted that far before,,,wasn't bad.. Have you spoken to her about advances? Could maybe work 6 paid 5 for a while to cover advance. Just a thought...

    From my opinions....... 4 loads is a no go on a regular basis!!!

    5 might work......... very carefully

    6 is much better

    I also doubt they would keep me around running 4 loads a day 5 days a week. Heck 'm still freaked out over the trialer. $50 a wek is great but when they give you some big ol POS and you have to start dumping your money into it then they take it back, that's a loosing proposition. BOR is doing this type of deal with ACE and he told me his first week out he blew two air bags or something like that. I erased his PM so I forget exactly what all he had to pay for that week. Needless to say his second week he was looking for a trailer
