Number 4 here. Have contempated my own authority as of late, but not ready to make that leap. To many uncertainties right now.

And just what is number 1? Company drivers who pay for fuel?

Pretty much! Its the option for the guys who got suckered into leasing a old company truck from their current company.

Since i started this poll yesterday, most of you guys are o/o's running under someone else's authority. I have a question for you, and I would like a intellgent response.

How in the heck do you make any money at .95 cents a mile? I have ran numbers over and over again and I can't see how you could pay the bills at that rate.

I do not run at .95 a mile. Neither do many large carriers. Landstar, Mercer, Fikes, Cardinal Logistics, Ace Doran, Meadowlark, Lock trucking and the list goes on and on.



I get paid 80% of gross. Another small O/O company I know of pays 82%. another one 84%.

In my case if I run a full week I can easy gross $5000 AFTER the company takes their 20%. Do the numbers on that figure.
Now granted its been many a week for me since I've done THAT good, but it is possible and should happen again when freight picks up.

Thats not too bad, but I see the ads for .95 cents a mile for o/o's and I can't simply figure out how they make money.

Brickman, for 80% what does your carrier pay for? I mean like permits, base plate, etc. etc.

i get between 80-92% of the gross, depends on what is on the deck, 100% of the FSC, stop off charge and tarp fee's.

my average is $1.497/mile to my truck so far this year, and my weekly averages have some been higher, some lower.

no way would i run for .95.mile

They pay the dispatcher and the car pulling fees at one of the auctions we haul from. The rest either I pull the cars or pay some one myself. They handle all the paper work, pay the permit service and pay all IFTA taxes. The NM permits, the single state and the prepass.




There is no way you are going to make it at .95. A lot of companies pay all the permits, base plate etc etc etc and the lease ops still won't make it. If you are getting .95 plus .50 for FSC you'll have a hard time. If fuel is .80 and driver wages are .40 you'll have .25 left for replacement costs and maintenance. Most of the time they are not paying .50 FSC.

Well I took this co job at arnold to come up with some tire and repair money and while I was at orientation I couldn't believe there owner op package. There was one owner op in my class and from what he told me he had to make I assume he's already lost his truck before he even started. get a load of this one. $.87cpm plus fsc. which this week is at $.44cpm if I remember the msg correctly form last friday. now to there advantage they do pay for everything. plate, permits etc. but no prepass. not even in the company trucks (Ihavn't been in so many scales in the last 7 years as I have in two weeks) they also get access to the fleet fuel discout and shop rates at $55hr.
I could run y truck on it since I don't have a payment but I wouldn't
