Big TEx trl manufacturing up on I30 near texarkana is usually looking for people to haul them too.

 

MM I checked them out once they have their own trucks and any exstra is like pulling camper trailers CHEAP because its one way and power unit only But it could pay more now.

 

I played That game for about 3 months back in the late 80's when it was starting to become popular.I leased on to a outfit that pulled directly from an industrial manufacturer and stuck with it about 3 or 4 months.

Heres what you need to think about.If your Dodge is completely stock and you are wanting to pull everyday like the class 8 guys do,you'll have to spend some money on your truck...COOLING system is very important,your truck was built to pull the occasional camper,horse trailer or a bit of construction goodies to a jobsite,not get out there and hammer day after day...You should at minimum add the biggest helper fan you can mount and if it's an auto,the biggest tranny cooler you can possibly mount otherwise you will find yourself midway up a mountain sitting beside the road upset.You should also lay back quite a bit of your earnings for truck repairs as in....If it's an automatic,get enough saved to rebuild the tranny at a GOOD shop because you will end up having to do it if you pull any kind of true load in rough conditions..If it's a stick,get enough laid back for a clutch and all the extra goodies that go with it..tires,tires,tires.....If the truck already has a lot of miles on it,get ready to put bearings in the rearend and if you are unlucky,the whole rearend (especially if you are running big loads)....Brakes are a constant problem if you run big loads and electrics will make you pull your hair out sometimes (brake controllers,lights,blown fuses etc etc).....There's quite a bit more,but you get what I'm saying.I'm not trying to discourage you in any way because I made a bit of money and had a little fun doing it,but you need to be aware that pickup trucks are pretty wimpy for the long haul even if you are not running big loads,three months will really do some damage to one and after a few trips,a pickup that you thought rode like a caddy before you signed on will turn out to be uncomfortable like you can't imagine.Go for it,but keep your eyes open.

 

I have a friend who does this with his dodge and if you stand back and look you can actually watch the truck wear out!


He basically rebuilds the whole truck every 10 months or so. brakes are the worst part

 

That's very true....I took a real sharp truck and turned it into a pile of junk pretty quick.Bouncing across rough roads loaded,mashed to the floor all the time,not for speed,but to just keep up with traffic as I usually let them overload the heck out of me.We got paid by the component and mile and most guys had 25' goosenecks and pulled 1 component.....I thought I could beat the system and went with a 40' gn and would drag 3 loads for one.....What extra money I was making was going into the fuel tank and repairs and had I ever had the misfortune of being pulled over I would've been UNDER the jail house( BAD OVERWEIGHT on the plates ,tarped with a tarp that had a farm name all down the side and never got bothered).LOL. It was fun for the time,but with what I lost on the truck/trailer when I sold them,the fuel and repairs etc etc....I doubt I really broke even.Story of my life.

I sold my crew cab 4x4 powerjoke to a dude last year that went and hooked it up in Elkhart dragging campers....I don't recall who he went under ,but I seen him going down the road,loaded,a few weeks back and that truck looked like hammered hell.Filthy and one (I only saw one side,may have been both)dually fender just hanging by the grace of God.He must be making money tho' cause he was rolling along.
