sounds more like sour watermelons, or grapes, or something...

I actually thought I would get more results than this by now, but I was wrong.
Maybe some guys are actually afraid to admit how often they figure their operating cost.
For the guys who voted for once a month, how in the heck does that work with you?
I mean Diesel goes up everyday and if you don't adjust but every 30 days you could be off .50 cents a mile by the end of the month. -
once a month is more then reasonable for mot costs as they are relativly fixed. Fuel is easy to figure in your head on a daily basis to keep track of so mabey that's what they are meaning

I review my numbers every two weeks.

I do a P&L report for the company once a month. The fuel surcharges are adjusted weekly per my contracts with the customers, so in my situation, fuel cost fluctuations are irrelevant due to the surcharge compensates.
-
I figure my costs on each and every load. This week I adjusted my cost structure as well to account for increase in cost of tires, PM and repairs. With fuel prices increasing significantly on almost a daily basis, I need to know before I haul the load whether it is profitable, not wait until the end of the month to see how well I did. Calculate against all miles and consider the time factor as well. I set my revenue target against my resource utilization and measure daily against performance.
-
I review the cost and project what the load will cost at the start of the load. I review it enroute.
After the load, I analyze for variances.
