first off i would like to say hello.i have read alot of post and you o/o have been alot of help.well i have wanted to drive since i could remember.my father has drove for 26 years.i am coming to you guys because he is no help.i dont have a lick of exp. under my belt but my driving record stops alot of companies from hiring me and the ones that want to hire me are trash.my thing is i jus want to skip steps and jus own my own truck and use brokers.i have the money to get me started and buy my truck and trailer cash.i know it is crazy but i figure if i could get a few months of exp in my own truck i can get a better driving gig o/o or company and park my truck for a bit.any responce would be helpful.dont beat around the bush give it to me strait up.if u think i am dumb tell me so but tell me why.thank you
want to be a o/o

I started out on with my own truck, bought my first one at age 18. But back then fuel was $1.40 a gallon and there was plenty of crap to haul, also ive been driving trucks since i was a kid with the ole man, so i didnt jump into it with 0 driving experience. I dont think its a dumb idea, especially if you can pay cash, but i think its dumb to go buy a truck and not know how to drive it.
psisc Thanks this. -
i was hoping u replied.ur strait to the point.i know how to drive.with old man also. i have no company exp.
-
how hard do you think it would be for me to get frieght.

Well sorry to say but if you dont have your own authority you're screwed, not only that but your biggest issues will be insurance, even if you do find someone to insure you it will cost a pretty penny.
If you have a CDL then give schneider a call, you can lease on a truck with them and make good money.... From what i hear anyway. -

ok.well i dont know how this works but old man said i can use his authority?he is still driving.i was thinking bout gettin my own authority.all said and done he said it would be about 5000.now thats what old man said.i am still researching.i know this may seem crazy but i am not out trying to make a big bucks of the start.i jus want to drive my w9 im gonna buy. 550 thanx
-
Yeah just go under his authority, haul what he hauls, get your feet wet and go from there.
I can see the $5k, as you need to put a down payment on insurance, get your own plate, etc. -
thanx man alot.i mean that i needed to here it from sumone else.

On a side note reguarding 550's statement on insurance I can add this---As a new driver your insurance will limit you to 3-500mi (progressive) depending on your state and it is still high for a newb. So 550's suggestion that you go under dads authority will give you much better insurance even though it will still be high to begin with. Wish I had that option, since I don't I am having to set up short regional work for at least a year to get my insurance down and distance allowance up.
psisc Thanks this.
