The 2290 $550 is not a fuel tax, its a heavy highway use tax. IFTA is fuel tax and that has to be done quaterly.

LOL thats what I was thinking. $800 is cheap. We paid $1750 for ours.

Mine was $1840 with change, but im licensed for 161,000 lbs in MI just incase id like to pull my trains again, only 12 states too. If i went 48 it would be cheaper but then id pay for it next year when i renewed and didnt run through those other states and pay my IFTA do's for them..... I did that 3 years ago and when renewing they came up with $2400, good thing i was able to delete all the states i will never see and bring it back down to a "sane" amount.......... Yeah MI is weird.

At this point, it'll be brokered loads. I do have a connection for a contract with a manufacturer here locally, but the current contract holder's term isn't up for a while.

MilKMan $800 is just for your home state, MI charged me $608 just for their crap and processing. 48 state plate will be up there around $2000.

You'd be smarter to just lease on a company than to haul brokered freight! All the money your gonna waste just to have your own rights and to have to chase brokers for your money! I don't know what manufacturer your wanting to deal with but if you only have one truck and they need ten they are most likely gonna go with someone else. They will also most likely want you to haul cheaper than the other company in order to get this account.

Its a start lol. I wont get my moneys worth out of them so thats why they sit, maybe someday ill get into some kinda lumber hauling in the MI U.P....... LOL right.

He can make money through brokers, just depends what and who he hauls for.... But like you said its gonna be hard to get on with a shipper under contract, unless you plan on under cutting someone whos already hauling it cheap.

The current contract is really high. The guy that originally wrote or signed .... well, let's say he wasn't exactly looking out for the company. Anyway, my friend over there says it won't even come up for discussion for nearly a year.

As for the Brokers: I've got my paperwork in to haul with Landstar Brokerage. I can't lease on with much anybody except Schneider at the moment because of the "recent" experience requirements across the board. My real plan is to haul for LS Brokerage as much as I can while dealing with another Broker or two I know until my time passes enough to lease on with LS. I could be wrong, but I don't think I'll have to chase LS too far for my pay. I also have a DAT subsription and Comdata (if I choose a load from their list approved shippers/brokers), will fund the invoice less a fee and w/o recourse the same day I get them the paperwork. We'll see.
