I assumed that if you wanted to rebuild the whole engine it would be better to have it done out of frame.

The truck was in very good condition when it was parked in my grand dad's barn. He bought it new and took very good care of it.
He parked it when he got sick with the hope's of going back to the road, Sadly he never got the chance...

The only reason i wanted to rebuild every thing now is because i don't wanna have to down the road(literally) and eat even more in to my savings.

Thanks!

Hey Wahwah. I understand you wanting to take your grandfather's truck out and earn some money with it, take these guy's advice though. You may not need a complete engine & tranny overhaul. Get a reputable mechanic to look at it, you could walk away with maybe $10k in repairs instead of draining all of the $20k.

If your grandfather took care of it, you shouldn't need to rebuild everything. This is all dependent on the milage / usage of the truck though. If its got several hundred thousand miles on it, it may be a good idea to get an in-frame overhaul.

Sorry about your grandfather passing away. Everything happens for a reason though. Enjoy life on the road and know that relatives who passed on have a knack for hanging around and making sure their loved ones are doing OK. I know my mom still helps me out from time to time on the other side.

That was my plan, I live in Michigan so i am planing on hauling cars to IN,OH,PA and IL. That's what my granddad did and that's what the truck was set up for(headrack is still on the truck).....I am considering putting in a 13 speed.

CARS, Now you are opening a whole new can of worms.....Do you have experence hauling cars?????
Will you try to run under your own authority, or try to lease on with another company??
Do you have your own trailer??? not sure if you mentiond that or not..

I will say that car haul is probably the toughest part of trucking to get into..

Yes to experience, Undecided on Authority and sort of to the trailer.
When my grand dad parked the truck he lent the trailer to one of his good friends in another state. and since he was a good friend we have not pursued any course of action through the courts, I have however talked to the gentlemen and he was planing on getting out of the business and to give him a month or so notice of when and if i want it back. My granddad was leasing it to him(without monetary compensation) so the title was transferred along with the rest of the estate into my dads name.
