Switching Companies

I'm curious to hear how all of you switch companies when you've had enough of either not enough work, money, or a combination.

Do you just go in one day and say here's your stuff, thanks for the opportunity?

It would be better to try and get something else lined up before hand, especially right now.

I have something lined up. And even though my truck has been down now for what seems like forever, I know the workload at the company I'm leased to now is not so hot. With having the truck down for so long, I can't in good mind continue to be there when there is nothing really to do. Intermodal is in the crapper right now, and I need to get out of the crapper. When it comes to stuff like this I'm so worried about pising people off, rather than covering my own behind.

Yes, I don't put up with any crap, but let me explain it for you, just to make it clear.

When Mr. Williams lands a gig somewhere he 1)busts his rear end and works as hard as possible, running as many miles as they'll let me. He takes time off when they give it to him unless there is an emergency. 2)I am honest, and I never cheat the company or try to sell fuel. I keep the truck maintained and I will turn the truck off if a)the weather is nice, and/or b)there is an apu. 3)I treat the customers with respect and communicate with dispatch on everything.

But, when my company does not pay me properly, refuses to run me for whatever reason, lays me over unnecessarily and with out pay, fails to maintain the equipment when repairs are needed to comply with D.O.T. standards, then I turn in the truck and quit with no notice.

THESE COMPANIES ARE NOT STUPID. THEY KNOW THEY'RE SCREWING YOU AND THERE IS NO REASON TO MAKE FRIENDS OR KISS THEIR BEHINDS OR DO FAVORS. That doesn't mean you shouldn't act professionally or corteously towards the company, their employees, and their customers.

You axed me what I thought and there it is.

If you already got something set up, go for it! As far a lease deals, I'm not sure exactly how to handle that, as I've never done a lease deal.

Maybe you misunderstood what I was trying to say. I'm not doing a lease purchase deal or anything, I own the truck. But I'm leasing it on to a company. I don't have my own authority or anything.

OK, then don't pay attention to my posts, as I am not experienced in that at all. I do not mean this sarcastically either. That is territory I've never been in, so I have no experience with that at all.

i just recently cancelled my lease with one outfit and moved to anouther....

i basicly told the now former company that i was moving on, gave them a list of the reasons i felt it was nessacry (slow frieght, low rates, im not making enuff to cover my payment let alone feed the family...ect ect), also told them that i hated to leave, and if the oppertunity (and economy) come around i might be back.......they said the door is open, call and we'll send plates, stickers and insurance whenever you are....

a good rep is invaluable at times

always give notice, and most of the time the higher ups want to know why an o/o is leaving so they can see if they can change anything to keep us silly guys (and gals) around...(comon....they make almost pure profit off us) ...and you never know....the greener grass just might be covered in manure
