there are a lot of drivers who would love to buy one but do not have the credit nor the downpayment available so they go with lease deals hoping to own the truck one day

Waller out of Excelsior Springs, MO seems to have a good deal. A friend of mine is doing their lease and seems to do alright with it. All maintenance is included, as well as a Rigmaster. They are t600 and some t660's. I think they have w900 as well. Just a thought.

Just suck it up for a year and save that $2000 per month difference between a loan and lease payment.

If you can truly afford a fleece, you can save that cash instead.
You will have the down payment + maintenance fund then.

The "want it now" mentality is what gets you screwed.

    This bears repeating.

IMHO, there is only one way to go and that is to have control of the financial side yourself, i.e., buy it outright, or lease/purchase from the dealer/financial company. NEVER lease from a freight company. There is just way too much opportunity for abuse.

I read thru the Hill Bros. lease purchase. It seemed pretty straight forward, but then thats how they tend to get you. I would say that those who have said "get it yourself" are right. I know its not easy, i've been looking etc for a year. But in the end, there are only so many cards in this game, and I want to hold as many as I can!:yes2557:

The original question is a non sequiter, they're ALL bad.

What you are doing when you enter into a lease purchase you're taking away the health insurance benefits, unemployment compensation costs, workman's compensation costs, truck maintenance costs, truck insurance costs (to name a few) all away from the company and putting them on your shoulders. You're paying for a job, even more so than those of us who outright own our own equipment.

Being an O/O sounds glamerous. Yes, you can decide when you go home; in actuality you wind up working more than as a company driver because you can't afford to take time off and lose the cash flow for a whole week. Yes, you can put your own name on the side of the truck; big whoop. Yes, you can be a "real" truck driver with chrome doo dads and fancy thingamajigs. They don't make you a dime, which I learned from long hard experience.

Don't like your company's idling policy? Wait 'till you're paying for that fuel yourself. You'll find out why they don't like sending fuel up the stacks for nothing.

Think your benefits suck? Wait until you, like my wife and I, are paying $1500/mo. for health insurance that has a $6,000 deductible (HSA).

Don't like being governed to a slow speed? Again, when you pay the fuel bill you find out spending the extra money on fuel isn't worth the 15 minutes you save going like a banshee.

Final point: don't get into a truck simply because you want to be an O/O. Realize that this is a business, not a lifestyle. If you don't treat it like a business you'll wind up with one of the sad stories we all hear way too often.
