I'm on my fourth l/p trk paid the last one off and ran it for 18 months with no payments. Same company they keep me averaging between 3300-3800 a week mostly drop and hook. Take very good care of the drivers. But then that's me experience. I still take 3 to 4 days off a month. But i'm not married. But still make a good living able to pay for my toys and keep my trk looking sharp inside and out. I think alot of drivers keep the company driver mentality. I do alot of my maintenance on trk myself. I have not paid for pm's or brake jobs or other small repairs in years. But I see lease drivers go into major trk stops and pay 50+ dollars for wiper blades to be installed or replace a headlight. I've even seen them pay to have their tires air psi checked and aired up. I guess they don't realize that all the little things they can do themselves saves them money. But they just think they should be able to run it like a company trk and be lazy. Granted as a rule some l/p programs are scams but there are some out there that will work if you run it like a buisness.

    Ooops and 51.50 Thank this.

Doing the Lease thing is a tough gig.

It really helps not to be under the gun financially. You need to be able to start with extra cash set aside ($1500-2500 minimum) to deal with unexpected issues ( like a deer leaping in front of your truck) or be able to sock away extra funds each and build up several funds (tires, breakdown, emergency, etc.)

I did the Lease thing with Prime. They make you pay for almost everything; load locks, chains, APU, APU maintenance, and of course the truck and other business expenses like permits.

After my initial extra cost dropped off I had fixed weekly expenses of $1148, not including fuel which ranges from $500-800 per week. So I had to earn $1700-2000 each week just to break even and start making money.

The truck was a brand new 2016 FL Cascadia light weight with full warranty coverage. In the first 3 months I had a deer collision ($1000 deductible), had to replace a drive tire ($1000) and the truck was in the shop 3 times (warranty coverage but lost time) On top of that I'd get dispatch telling me, "oh freight is just slow now, or you're in a bad area for loads."

Now I'm a company driver for a pneumatic company and I'm much happier and a lot less stressed.
