I do not know about you guys, but I made a ridiculous and easy mistake. I forgot to drain the tanks and now my air relief valve is going crazy spitting back off every two secs.... I took the main line which is at the top of the air compressor off, put the juice in it, the two little lines under the air compressor, bled the tanks on both sides and put the line anti freeze into both of them and my valve is still kciking off... I have ran the truck for about an hour and still nothing.... Anyone have any other ideas?
Frozen air lines...??

And of course my truck is not holding air at all, leaving me no where to go..... with all the freight I could be moving, I'm sitting on my ### anyways, but at home

Give the governor a little tap ... it's probably a little frozen/stuck. It happens all the time.

rubbing alcohol................

Hubby says shut the truck off, use a torch to heat up the air governor (just enough to thaw, don't melt it!), then start the truck back up. You can head on down the road till it freezes again. He said you might need to think about getting a new one - which'll be around $29, is really common to have a problem w/ once they start wearing out.
Hope that helps?Sergeant-Scream Thanks this. -
Still nothing/.....

Alright the governor is the grey part thats attached to the back of the air compressor with a black plastic top right?
-
Yes. You don't heat it up a lot, just melt the ice - very carefully. You could use a hair dryer or if you're warm blooded, your hand, if it's not REALLY frozen up.
Hubby said that would be the problem, though, if you're not building up air, and if that doesn't work, you're going to have to replace it. He said the air governor controls the dump valve, that's why it's popping. -
WEll ill do that tonight, or tomorrow if I have a load. I had to turn down one load for the day so the temperature is going to be cold AGAIN here in Ohio, so no need in doing it until I'm ready to leave again, because I am sure it will just stick again... But I appreciate the help.

No problem. He's heading from NY on the Turnpike over to Monroe, MI, so he agrees, it's pretty freaking cold!!
One thing I love about him for sure, he really knows his stuff about engines/trucks and does a LOT of the stuff himself. On his Detroit Series 60 he did everything himself, on the Cummins, he's teaching himself as he goes on the few things he doesn't know about that big Volvo.
Good luck and try to stay warm!Last edited: Jan 15, 2009
