| IC, O/O or O/O with own authority? Hello all, Hope all is well with everyone and the good Lord keeps you safe and the loads pooring in.... I have probably asked this question before but don't recall ever getting an answer and that may just be due to the fact that I am new to furrums. At any rate, I am 40yrs of age, been driving since May 0f 08 and love the road. Have 5 kids, grown and 3 grandkids. My father was a trucker for 35 plus years and I never had any plans to follow in his footsteps. But, hear I am. I love the road and all its ups/downs, no matter what the day may bring. I worked as a computer tech for 14yrs and the stress from being in the corporate world was just too much and money was getting low but work load heavier. I decided to do trucking and would love to own my own truck in the near future. My father owned a few in his day and always seemed to loose them but I am not my father. I learned a lot from him, mostly of what not to do. My question is this; what is the difference between an IC, O/O & O/O with own authority? I know "Broncrider" has some posts somewhere about O/O's but having a hard time finding them. Would really just like a post that explains the basic differences of the 3. Thank you all for all the info on this forrum, I have much reading to do and have already learned quite a bit about CB's. |

| First I would get more time in a company drivers position and like the other threads will state you should track the cost of operation of your company truck like it was your own. That way you will have a good idea what it will cost to operate. Just remeber that to save money you will have to know how to work on the truck...even when the weather is nasty. I just loved doing a grease service and replacing some parts out in 15 degree weather with 12 inches of snow on the ground yesterday.

| These things that have been sugested I already know. I have been driving my company truck as though it were my own, keeping track of expenses like fuel, checking my MPG and driving different speeds to determine the best speed for MPG. I know that an IC=Independant Contractor and O/O=Owner Operator What I want to know is; what is the difference between the two? What is the difference between an O/O and an O/O with own authority? I really thought more people would respond to this thread. I will buy my own truck but first I must learn ALL there is to learn before I do. That I know for sure, so someone help me out with the things I am not 100% sure about. Thanks again, |

| Ok, I think I got it now, thanks for the help to my question anyway. Tell me if I am wrong, close or off by a mile. O/O is one that own his own truck, he/she can contract on with a company which relieves him/her of their own authority. OR, they can run with their own authority which means brokering their own loads and finding their own loads, plus collection of payments and such. How close am I? |

| Never, ever get complaicent! Hello 1pissedoffdriver, I thank you for your input but if I was you and I know that I am not, I think, no, I know I would look at other companies to lease onto. You have a paidfortruck and not doing well, something wrong with this picture. I talk to O/O everyday, so that I will be more then prepaired, that is the reason I joined this forrum. I have heard a lot of good things about Landstar too, but like everythink in life there are those that are doing good and those that are not. I really hate to hear you are not doing well but I know all the drivers that I have already talked to can't be wrong. You are just not in the right situation for you. Trust me, check around and talk to other O/O's, you will be back on top again. "slow is smooth, smooth is fast" |

After all is paid for and all fuel and all taxes you are lucky to make .40 cents a mile for your labor... why do people feel they can ''do it beeter'' and ''figure'' a way out... NUMBERS DON'T LIE....IT IS WHAT IT IS....I CAN LIE ABOUT MY NUMBERS IF YOU LIKE?? BUT I AM MAKING THE TRUCK 3,000 A MONTH...WHEN ALL IS TAKIEN OUT TO THE PENNIE I MADE 900.00 FOR ME...IF I BLOW A TIRE IT CUTS INTO THAT... CLOSE TO 3,000 TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE OUT OF BUSINESS,I GUESS THEY TO ARE ''NOT SMART ENOUGH''...LOL,LOL.. ITS A MATTER OF ''''THERE IS NO WORK'''AND THE WORK OUT THERE IS BEING PULLED FOR .80 CENTS A MILE..... WHAT CAN I TELL YOU I WENT FROM PUTTING 2,000 A WEEK IN MY POCKET TO 900.00 A WEEK... ITS THE ECONOMY...ANYONE HAS TO BE CRAZY TO WANNA BUY A TRUCK TODAY...IT'S ABSURD.. |
