How is anyone leasing on with any trucking company and making money. My research says you need to plan on $.70 a mile for operating costs. If a company only pays $.90 a mile you are only making $.20 a mile. Someone please tell me what I am missing.

I would like to own my own truck and I have talked with drivers who tell me they are making good money leased on to these companies, but never give me any specific numbers. I am not going to leap off a cliff into water that is only three feet deep just because someone says it's thirty feet deep.

Because they are lying to you friend...There is no money in leasing. You answered your own question. .20 cents a mile if your lucky....You are nuts to try leasing my friend...

You are so much better off going to St.Louis and getting a company job...Hell i own mine and i struggle terrible and i am with landstar. One of the better companies....

Give it up for now and wait till economy changes..To many guys turning in equipment and going belly up..

There's a lot of end dump work here in central illinois, the question is can I make enough to make it worthwhile? I've also considered going totally on my own as a regional driver. Central Illinois is a good place to work out of. The problem is that I never hear any real numbers. For instance I always hear drivers complaining that brokers just rip off drivers, but I never hear what the brokers are offering for loads.

I can go to any bookstore and get all the information I need for almost any brick & mortar type business or online business, yet when it comes to starting a trucking business almost everyone I talk to is doing it "by guess and by gosh." It is no wonder so many fail, you can't run a business by the seat of your pants. I am looking for hard numbers. Obviously there is money out here somewhere, so where is it? I'm not trying to get rich, just work when it's time to work, go home when it's time to go home and feed the family.
