I need some advice on setting up (make sure I'm legal) my 99' FL 70 road tractor pulling a 26' g/n trailer, 20k lbs total.
For now I will be intrastate.
I have a class "A" cdl, insurance on truck and trailer, dot medical card, logbook, fire extinguisher, 2 safety triangles, all lights work on the truck and trailer, truck is in good overall shape w/120k miles.
Have about 5 years of local trucking exp.
What else do need in Florida?

Well first off you will have to get your own authority I'm pretty sure. You have to have a DOT # and the only way to get one is with your own authority.

Second, it is 3 reflective triangles that you need not 2.

Third, you need to get your IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement). Maybe not since your only intrastate.

    Hope that this helps.

Check with FL DOT to see and be 100% sure on everything that you will need.

Forgot to mention I do have my dot #'s already.
Triangles add one,no fuel tax for instate(intrastate).
    Thanks for the good advice!

Stop by local truck stop, pick up motor carriers atlas. Numbers for all state DOT are in it. Do you need a log book for intra-state FL? 26,000 lb gross is where cdl comes in. Is 20K including load or just empty wt.? Anyway, call FL DOT, they should answer questions, but I wouldn't trust phone conversations. Find out from them also where to find written laws. Keep a copy with you in case of run in with road cop who might say otherwise. Highlite applicable sections of law for easy reference. If you can't dispute them with the book, they will often write you up. Then, even if the cop is wrong, you have to send a lawyer or go to court to fight it.

The problem arises when you cross state lines, which he thinks he may do later. Own equipment or not, commercial activity crossing state lines brings DOT authority into the picture.

From what I've heard I will need to keep a notebook with mileage and destinations only. The trailer with eqiupment on it weighs about 19k lbs.
    Truck weighs 10,800 lbs. so,about 30,000 lbs total.I'm tagged for 34,999 lbs.
FLDOT handbook will be next on list to keep in truck.

If you license for over 26k the cdl kicks in, whether or not you have that much on or not. Good luck.
