Well... go stand by a railroad and check out all of the Swift, Schneider and JB Hunt trailers on flat RR cars. That's how.

Didn't you have an attorney represent you ?
He did. They lied. He heard what he wanted to, and was totally unaware of his record until a few days ago. Part of his problem is he fails to verify information. He is always telling me how I need to call for insurance quotes and AP units and all sorts of things that will "save me money." He tells me how sorry I will be when I find out that the insurance is $500/month less than what I am paying now. Grrr... OOIDA might have connections but they don't have a printing press like the FED!

Its always a good idea when its my money. Never anything he would invest in. No, he'd rather buy consumer goods that he can't afford and ruin his credit. did I mention blame others for his losses? His DAC is one termination with a rebuttle after another. Sometimes, it wasn't his fault. Most of the time, it was. It's a sad combination...poor luck and poor decision making. Hopefully, I pick up some luck on this forum from people like you.

Sorry for rambling... I break it to him in a much softer fashion, which is a lot of ask when a kid who grew up on food stamps spends $70k on his homeless, unemployed and market rejected dad. I will still send him $500/month for sustenance, at least as long as he is around, but I can't play these games anymore. Wish I had never put my neck on the guillotine. Bankruptcy is about 2 months away. I swear I appreciate your guys help in ways you can't imagine.

With a driving record like that, disregaurd the PM I sent you. Sorry.

OK, check it out...Dad is out of the truck. Period. He might put a bullet in his head but I can't keep losing thousands every month to save him from his own peril.

I will get a driver that qualifies for the best loads out there. where should I look for the best loads? The driver won't be a problem.

I hate to do this to my dad but he just blew all his chips and I've lost almost 70 grand trying to save him. He complains and tells me everything is my fault. He has no idea how to run a business and has ruined his chances in every financial aspect of life. I just won't take it anymore!

Any help regarding high paying carriers is completely appreciated, and comes with a check of $500 if I make it. You send me the address, and after running for 3 months I send you the check. I'm a man of my word. At the very least you can help a young kid who made some bad bets on a dad who will soon be gone.

That's a very unfortunate set of circumstances.

Listen, at the risk of unpopularity, you have two ways to approach this.

Keep in mind that for long-time truckers, decent paying freight is very much a PRINCIPLED matter, and a worthy one.

Dollars to donuts though, you can find good paying freight, OR run a CRAPLOAD of cheaper freight for the same effect.

If you run the numbers on miles, and break even points, a lot of guys here are using 75000, 100000 miles a year with what is considered decent home time.. running hard in bursts and playing hard.

At those miles you may need $1 a mile for the truck and expenses and above that for driver pay.

At 150000 miles, all that drops to about 70 cpm, and with teaming it drops lower.

Your dad can succeed but will have to work his tail off and there needs to be an almost neverending stream of freight at nearly any price, and teaming, not having a dedicated unloader, that is just completely unnecessary fat in the process that I don't even fully understand what's going on there.

So pick and choose, and in my opinion right now lose, or keep going, never look back, never turn down a load, make the books work and stay afloat.

The latter strategy is what is happening. It is not working. Maintenance on the truck is about $1,000/month. There is no way to team, as my cousin is in the truck as well. He is a lumper.

There is simply no way to continue this trend. I have bad checks out and no way to cover them. I can't pay my rent. I need to get another driver and run for a high paying company and I need to do it before two weeks pass.

I'm not willing to run cheap loads, anyways. That messes with the quality of living of every driver in America.

The state of the industry has messed with the quality of life of truckers. You have to understand this is bigger than you and you are feeling similar pains to 99% of the threads on here. (I feel bad for implying the answers are in 1%)

I sincerely hope you get your high paying load secrets answered. I fear you may have to find ways to get leaner though and quick.

From what I can tell, most doing very well have had their own shipping contracts for some time and they are holding.

After reading this thread my only advice to you would be sell out and take a loss now.If you have "lost" $70,000 on a one truck operation you won`t ever recover. If you can`t drive yourselfand keep an eye on your investment then IMHO quit now, list your equipment elsewhere on this forum may be a good place to start.Find a new dream, this one is never gonna work for you.Not trying to sound like an #####.I`ve seen too many people try the same approach as you and not one is still in the trucking business.Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Well, I haven't lost $70k, I have invested that much. I am losing money, but nothing that big. The thing is, we have the wrong strategy and I haven't tried anything else. I am willing to try many stretegies before throwing in the towel. I couldn't sell the truck, anyways. It is still on a loan for about what I could get rid of it.

I am still optimistic, only because I have yet to try out all the good advice on this board.
