Stick to your guns Al. You've hit a hurdle, but you have jumped those hurdles before. Your house and other items were behind, but your drive to make a better life for your family has given you a chance for a breather on the past due bills. Your truck is down, but your finances are caught up... Step back, re-think your options and you will continue to suceed. Blue may be down but, YOU certainly are not out.

MM, do you have a crdit card with enough available credit to buy a transmission and 5th wheel? If you continue to do as well financially as you have you could have the card paid off quickly or you could atleast pay the minimum untill you could do so. Just a thought as an option.

I wish you well.

I don't own credit cards anymore and I wouldn't put it on your credit card, that's how strongly I feel about credit cards.

Honestly people. For the price to fix this truck I can get a new one and that's hat I plan to do. Either get a newer one or you can find me at walmart handing out shopping carts.

You're still too young for that. I think you have to be on the uphill side of 90 to get that job..

When you hit what you think is rock bottom and then fall a little deeper, there is only 1 way to go and that is up. You only fail when you quit trying. Best of luck to you MM on whatever decision you choose to make. The older iron will nickle and dime ya to death and when you get to point of getting rid of it the person that buys it will probably have very little problem with it because you have fixed all the bugs and delt with all the Bulls##t. I too have an older piece of iron (87 Star) a year and a half ago the fuel pump started to act up and i swear there was a bizillion mile on her. So I parked her and took the money i should have bought a fuel pump with and used it as a down payment on a newer truck. Boy was that a big mistake!!!!! Cause then you are dealing with someone elses problems that u don`t know about. Since i have had the 96 Star (bought Sept 07) I have had to replace the tranny in late December. then the injectors in April, the power divider let go late June and the other day I find that I now have fuel in my coolant system. So now will be another costly repair bill. Should have just bought the damn fuel pump for my 400 mechanical cat and just let her run even with all those miles on her she still did a fine job. Sorry about being long winded but just wanted to let you know my adventures about thinking I was bettering myself by buying a newer piece of equipment.

96 is too old of a truck to have a payment on.

I've had this discussion only minutes ago with a friend in PM. If you'r going to have old truck then don't have a payment. If your going to have a payment, have a warrentee

it's still not a gaurantee but it's a much safer bet.

I was runing with the idea that I could make money and fix things as I went. My mistake was that I had to many larger items I hadn't addressed before putting the truck to work and they all kinda caught up faster then I could run it

Go to the corpus christi craigslist and type peterbilt into the search box. Someone is parting out a pete with a 9 speed trans. Just thought I would pass it on since I saw it.
