I'm at home. Cleaning, while my wife is at the lake fishing.... Anyone see a problem here?
The important question is; does she clean the fish after she catches them, and cook them too? If so, you gotcha a good woman.

I love working at Landstar. The vast majority of the agents I have delt with have been very decent I had one I decided not to haul for as I just got a bad feeling about things. One guy told me to call him back on some loads as he was out of the office, when I called back he had given them to someone else. Then there was that whole mess I got into with that Dallas load but actually it turned out fine I just was really concerned with thing. Only bad part about it is I ended having to deadhead too far for an empty trailer.
In general I see where the bad reports of Landstar come from. Mostly bad agents. But you get that everywhere. In other companies you hve bad dispatchers, being independant you have bad brokers. At least at L if you have a bad dealing with someone there are a whole lot of others out there.
That said though I still feel they take way too much of my money

They are not taking your money, they are giving you what you agreed too. Buy your own trailer as soon as possible, vans should be getting cheaper every day.A 5 - 8 thousand dollar trailer will earn 12 -16 thousand a year. Not a bad return on investment.

I have to agree that 35% is quite a lot to keep for a company that owns no trucks or terminals, chargers for trailers, plates, permits, pays no tolls, and many other associated things taken out of the check.

65% was the norm back in the 70's at companies that furnished the trailer, liability and cargo insurance, did all paperwork, including computing fuel taxes, for free, and sometimes included permits, but mostly not. Not to mention, the outbound loads were usually picked up at the terminal preloaded.

I'm not bashing Landstar, I just think their piece of the pie is a little big for no more than they furnish. 73-75% with their trailer and 82% with your trailer would seem more in line.

Look at it this way. You take a 1.15 CPM load, you end up with .715 less other expenses. The fuel alone eats up most of that.

I'm still looking at them, as I may get another truck, but rates will need to go up first. Already found nice, very low priced truck, and nice 53' air ride trailer. Just too nervous to pull the trigger on it.

if they provided insurance plates and permits i'd be happy with their percentage. It does seem after fuel I don't have much left.
You may say I dont' have a truck payment but in reality I do, I pay my truck payment in fuel. Unfrtunatly the more it goes up the bigger the descrepency in my FSC is since i'm well below the MPG point they base it on

Right now I won't book anything under $1.80mi gross MINIMUM! anything less and I can't advanc enough to cover all of my fuel costs. I've been looking since yesterday afternoon for a load and I am having a VERY hard time finding anything to haul out of the house that doesn't have a 200 MI deadhead for a 200 or 300 mile load. two weeks ago I hauled that load to SC for $1.67mi and I ran out of fuel money. I don't p;an to experience that again.

I need to call my medical scanner guy and see if their work has picked up. I really need to get into a nice scanner route in this area

Just booked a round trip power only load from shreveport LA to kalamazoo MI. near $2mi and I get 70% of it since I'm pulling their trailer.

I've never done one of these, we'll see how it works out

MM good luck with the power only load.

Some times it can be difficult to get back to your trailer without a lot of dead head.
