I just posted this over on Broncs thread. I'm lazy so I just copied n pasted it.

I'm very conflicted

I'm at the reast area in New Breunfels TX. I was just geting out of the truck, getting a cold drink and sitting on the bench looking at blue sitting there with all her lights on. At night I see the truck I want her to be and I really love this truck. Makes it hard to consider getting something else and possibly selling it.
As it sits I'm a member of a rather select group. There isn't a whole lot of people still running the old iron daily and I get a certain amount of respect for it. I was hanging with a guy running an old W900 with the aero 1 sleeper over at HEB. I just don't know if I want to give that up, that's who I am.

I don't see the conflict. This may seem very idealistic but oh well. It seems to me you have two choices. 1- Buy another truck i.e. a Shaker, that will possibly be more reliable and have less costs in repairs. However, you won't be happy because it's not the truck you want. 2- Keep Blue. She's not as reliable (right now) and she'll have more needed repairs. But she's what you want and you'll be able to make her a more reliable truck. She hasn't completely failed you yet, you almost got caught up on your house note.
Reading your post... It kinda seems to me like you've already made your decision.

Hey Dawg, a truck is a tool. Mechanic tools are all different. Some say SnapOn, some say Craftsman, some say Made In China. Some mechanics don't care as long as it works, some will only use Craftsman. Some drivers prefer Pete, some don't care as long as it pays the bills dependably. Either way, the tool pays the bills and just like the mechanic uses his tools to pay the bills, he also has some inclination to at least "like" the tool. With the mechanic, he isn't "living in" the tool, so it's not all that important he like it. The driver "lives in" his/her tool, so I side with the idea a driver needs to "like" their tool........ no pun intended.

Nice post. Makes for interesting reading.
Now back to reality. You need to be able to put back to back productive weeks. We all want to see you get back on your feet and moving forward. In order to do it you need to get out of the rut of one week on the road and then one week at home putting the truck back together. It is not your fault just the reality of running a 23 yr. old truck.
Do I think you will make it? Yes I think you are going to be around for a long time. If you stay on the path you are on you will continue to get by. I want to see you get ahead. I am sure you know as well as I do a newer truck would increase your chances of putting back to back productive weeks. It also brings on new challenges. Like truck payments. I also think truck payments could give you some motivation to put those back to back weeks together.
One more thing that is on my mind. Please do not buy a truck that you do not want to drive. I for one am not looking forward to all the posts about people like me talking you into a truck you did not really want.

Do you want to make money, or do you want to look cool?

Is trucking a lifestyle, or is it a means to a lifestyle?
