It is going to be tuff everything is cheap, I hauled a big load a few weeks ago that normally would pay about $5000 gross but it was paying $3500, I was 14'6" tall, 14' 4" wide and grossing 105,000lbs and I got 3.4mpg, by the time the company took out their part and with all the deadhead miles involved I made 1.53 to the truck and had a high fuel bill. My step deck freight has come to a hault and I will not haul that big stuff that cheap. I am going to put my trailer up for sale and I am going to go see a hopper outfit today about pulling for them. They have some decent paying stuff and some not so decent but I am just wanting to pay my bills and survive until things get better, you have to take the good with the bad. The truck market is so bad I am proably $15,000 to $20,000 up side down and that sucks when I put $20,000 down when I bought it new, so their is no trying to seel my truck. I kick my self every day for not hanging on to my old ride that got better fuel mileage. I wished I could see into the future but that might be a bad thing. lol

What kind of fuel card? Any Ampride stations in your area? I have one down from my house and they have their own fuel card.

No, I'll let National Carriers keep their motto. I think the grain haulers slogan is "It's not cheap enough-cut it some more."

Really, I thought flats paid good. I did a little of that...hard work chaining up etc. I'd take a hopper over that any day. The grain dust and other fumes can get to you but I usually wear a dust mask...Stops a lot of coughing and wheezing.
I like that Elite Cheap Fleet...Applies to some outfits around here.
