We try to load 51,000. But some places want to load the front heavy, and you have to watch them. -

The lightest weight rig I have seen was a aero daycab pete with a cornhusker trailer and super singles. Had C-10 engine also. It could haul 58,000 and be in around 80,000. We were hauling to the same elevator and it made me ill how much more he could haul than me.Last edited: Jun 1, 2009

Does anyone have an online source to this rumor about Werner buying 3,000 hoppers? I don't think that is true.
If it is...there goes the neighborhood. -
No, I really haven't looked online. Who knows about rumors? Seems a little hard to believe. Hopper rates aren't that great.

Well, I live in Werner HQ country, and I can say that I personally haven't seen any Werner trucks hauling a hopper. Schultz, yes, Werner, NO.

I weigh 27,800 to 29,300 depending on fuel and if I'm in or out.
I pretty much always ask for 25 tons, the most legal about 25.5.
That's 900 bushels corn, or about 850 of wheat or beans.
Carrying 54,000 would be really nice though! I bet 2 extra tons every load makes a nice bottom line. -
Pharm,
Your specs are about spot on for us too. 25.5 is what we shoot for most the time. But there are some places that just can't seem to hit that, and will short us a ton. At times, its not worth waiting around to get the extra ton.PharmPhail Thanks this. -

Yes, the extra 2 tons does help. They run a lot of cornhusker trailers around here because they are so light. If I ran one I would save another 1,000 to 1,500 lbs. They are not a real durable trailer though. They run super singles with the cornhuskers.Last edited: Jun 1, 2009
