Re: Forward Air Calling all Owner Operators!!!

From the websight....

Quote:
Forward Air Corporation is a leading provider of time-definite surface transportation and related logistics services to the North American deferred air freight market. We provide scheduled surface transportation of cargo as a cost effective, reliable alternative to air transportation. We transport deferred air freight that must be delivered at a specific time, but is less time-sensitive than traditional air freight
This may not be time sensitive but it looks to me to be "expedited" freight. In other words a truck could be sent in to pick up a load at the airport but there could be a long wait while the product clears customs. If a truck is lucky it is released with barely enough time to make an ontime delivery.

I looked into something like this a couple years ago and walked away from it because it was too demanding, even for a trucking position....

Much like PantherII and CTX. (no forced dispatch YA RIGHT!, Paid deadhead after 250 miles.....first they DH you 199 miles, you sit, wait, then they DH you another 150 miles...you get the picture......)You SIT and wait ALL day, then they want you to get loaded, drive all night for a "first-thing" in the AM delivery.

They are nothing like expedite at all. It's more of a line haul, terminal to terminal. Over half of their drivers run dedicated routes. Most of their freight does run overnight. They also pay ALL miles, loaded and empty. I used to work for an air freight company, and we used Forward air for shipments going to destinations we didn't service (like east coast.)

I drive for Forward Air. They have been pretty good to me. Yes it is all night time driving, with VERY tight time schedules, but it is also 100% terminal to terminal with no deadhead miles.

They get me home and don't bug me when I want a day off. Overall, it is a pretty good deal.
