Help the Newbie Help!!!
Is there any O/O that are in the auto transport biz running 1 tons on here that will give me some info?
I am currently trying to get a business plan in place, to start my new adventure. I have been reading alot of the post on this site and other trucker sites, trying to figure out everything but have found myself lost so I figured I would start this and see what I can find out.
What is the cost to maintain a Vehicle and Trailer for a year?
What kind of gas mileage do you get? I have been calculating on 8 MPG loaded and 12 dead heading
What kind of price can I get hauling cars?
Is there one website that host all loads or do I need to join multiple websites?
Is central Dispatch a respectable site to get loads from?
I will start with these questions and hopefully someone will give me more insight on this. thank you for help

Right now car hauling is a very tough way to make a living,....Especially with a three car wedge,.......Rates are depressed and only being able to haul three cars at a time doesn't make sense to me,...
If your serious about hauling cars look into a 10 car hauler,......
And hey,....I might just have one for sale!!!!!!,...

First of all to start with, plan to go broke. Its a given.
Second of all keep this in mind!!!!!!!!!!! The best way to make a small fortune in trucking is to start with a large one.
Its all down hill from here.
I lost $30,000 and my equipment attempting to haul cars. Fish boy too went broke on his car hauling.
3rd.... plan on going broke.

The reason for going with the 3 car wedge, was I have the 1 ton, and its paid for. Just have to buy the trailer, but will be able to pay for it as well. By doing this I was trying to keep my overhead to a minimum. Leaving me the basic operating and maintenance cost. I would like to eventually step up to a 10 car hauler but I don't want to do that with debt, I would rather work and save a couple of years and then purchase one with cash.
also i have been reading in other post where a lot of the guys with the 10 car haulers are having trouble filling their trailers. Which lead me to believe the wedge would be a better option for now.

Determined..I'll give you that much. Then with things as they are, prices should be VERY reasonable for a wedge. With a paid for truck and trailer, you should last a lot longer than most.

Until the money runs out anyway,......
In all reality the overhead doesn't change much steping up to a 10 car hauler,...And it gives one the ability to haul up to 10 instead of three,....
Another problem with a 1 ton is you'll need to spend money on a motel room every night on the road because your one ton doesn't have a legal sleeper berth (unless you've put on a aftermarket sleeper),.....

I have read a lot on the sleeper. I do agree, I don't have a sleeper. We were going to take the back seat out and put in a bed. Although this doesn't meet the requirements of the a legal sleep as per DOT. It will give me a place to lay my head. Also there will be 2 of us driving. Our goal is to keep the truck going around the clock, this will minimize on hotel usage/expense.
I also read in another post , that if you log yourself as sleeper berth time and don't have a legal sleeper berth DOT will mess you up. But if you log it as off duty time it is totally different. Any input, suggestions or comments?
