    Hello everyone,

I am planning to move to Australia soon, from Canada. Here, I have class 8 truck, 2011 International. I would like to hear your opinion if it is better to buy truck in Australia or ship it from Canada.
If I am shipping, is there any: specific requirement by Australian Government or companies,
is it better to have manual or automatic,
    single axle or double axle,
what is the range for horse powers,
is it better to have cab over or regular truck?

Please let me know what Australian drivers prefer and why? What re the most popular types of trucks?
Thank you very much and I hope to get some direct answers soon.
    Good day mates :)

The biggest thing is we drive on the other side of the road so if you brought your truck over you would have to convert it to right hand drive. We also have strict length restriction of 19 meters and the standard trailer length is 13.5 meters.

In heavy truck sales kenworth is the leader has been for a few years with Mack Volvo trailing.
You are probably going to get a shock at the price of everything here especially parts and labour charges, very expensive compared to the State/ Canada.

Ok glad to see you making the big move to Australia so you need to know the pro's and the Con's based on what you've asked i'm assuming you want to start up you own company or business? Just about every country has what is known as an investment visa your country has one however the investor must have some ridiculous amount of dough something like $2,000,000 CA $ i mean who has that kind of dough i'm not quite sure as to what incentives the Australian immigration have for investors or people wanting to start up a business so i'd check that out first. Have you been to Australia that's another thing i'd seriously recommend you come over on a "sight seeing tour" first check our roads out if you've driven on highways in the USA or Canada be prepared to almost go back in time almost 30 years back in time our highway system is way out of date. The only major freeway between 2 cities is the Hume Highway and even that's not complete (Sydney-Melbourne) so if you love the good highway your going to have to stick to that highway. The Sydney - Brisbane highway (1) is being improved but still vastly inadequate to cope with the ever increasing demand of road use. Then you've got Brisbane - Cairns forget about that section of highway they've pretty much forgotten about Queensland there should of been a freeway built between Brizzy and Cairns 20 years ago but when there's only 20 million population things move at a slow pace. I guess bottom line is you've got to weigh up the Pro's and the Con's thats what Thomas Jefferson used to do before making a decision on anything. Oh before i forget if you plan on sub contracting with a company check out there financials first, very important some shonky companies only pay after 5 weeks i worked for a company about 10 years ago and they'd deliberately not pay in the 5th week of course drivers would scream unfair and threaten to take them to court however the big wigs all new that it takes years to go through the courts and would mockingly taunt and dare the drivers to take them to court. So i'm thinking at the moment there'd be more Con's that pro's here are a list of Cons 1. Need alot of money to invest in Australia. 2. substandard roads 3. Expensive fuel. 4. Very few if any decent rest stops 5. Very bad pay for owner operators There are probably others but there the main things of concern. Now there may be people who will come in here and contradict what I've said however bottom line is you really must do your own due diligence and find out what are the true facts are.
