Straight Road Truck laws could make roads more deadly

Truck laws could make roads more deadly
Australia

Quote:
NEW transport legislation aimed at reducing fatigue will potentially make the state's roads more deadly, opponents have claimed.
The heavy-vehicle fatigue changes will affect anyone behind the wheel of a truck in excess of 12 tonnes or a bus seating more than 12 adults in NSW from tomorrow.
Under the scheme, long-haul drivers will have the option of working a maximum of 12 hours during any 24-hour period or accepting a shortened week.

Ok, misleading.
if we want to run after midnight, we are forced into a shorter week (4 days) because as has become common 'knowledge' no truckies are safley alert at night

these fatuigue regs are the result of heavy campaigning by the major comapnies, as they do dock to dock , and will remain unaffected. but to the res of the industry, we will struggle to provide even the same level of service, much less improve/expand.

we have a percieved problem, and thats that truckies are dying because they choose to work so long.

truckes die more often due to, mechanical failure, 3rd party error ( cars ) bad roadways and so on.

While we have a problem, these laws are going to cripple an almost dead industry.
We need enforced laws on shippers and large transport Co's that hold them responsible for trying to enforce such tight delievery times.

Regulating the people that are suffering will and cannot achieve anything useful.
its like taxing the homeless to get them homes. stupid and pointless.

The majors threaten us with out work if we dont take on these loads with rediculous timeframes.
I have a friend who used to overnight melbourne to brisbane, and overnight return.
The distance is approx 1700klms ( 1062Mi )
His truck was 'opened up and geared fast. he would have needed to be averaging approximatley 125 kph, or 80 mph, on a national limit of 100kph or 62mph.

so that shows how hard that truck would need to be held ALL NIGHT.

but the government thinks that we need to be held in check.

just like your governtment trying to bail out its buddy fannie mae/ freddie mac. we have self interested morons in charge.
