Cars Ailing car industry needs lifeline

Ailing car industry needs lifeline

Quote:
AUSTRALIA'S car manufacturing industry is a major employer which the Federal Government cannot allow to wither.
The Government is formalising its response to the former Victorian Premier Steve Bracks' review of the Australian car industry. Some 50,000 people are employed in the sector – most of them in SA and Victoria.
Mr Bracks delivered his report in July. It is now almost November. Time, unfortunately, is one thing this industry does not seem to have.
Anecdotal evidence suggests sales of Australian cars have fallen dramatically in recent weeks. Official figures on this are due soon. Even so, there are many structural problems requiring immediate attention.
